I posted a while ago about using Google Voice commands on Android Auto (Hey Google, navigate to my nearest charging point) and whilst experimenting today I found that Google seems to now take more complex instructions, which solves a problem I've had finding chargers on my route whilst driving.

If you are using Google to navigate (Hey Google navigate to Glasgow), you can also now say "Hey Google are there any CCS chargers on my route". It will find CCS chargers on your navigation route and ask if you want them added to your journey as a stop.

Hope this helps ?

Definitely a step up from google constantly just giving me the "here's an article on wikipedia I found about CCS chargers...." which seems to be it's standard response to any question I ask Google at the moment.

Looks like Android Auto has had an update

Today whilst using voice navigation to get to my nearest EV charge point, I noticed that Android auto showed both the available and in use charge points at a location which can help to avoid queuing at a charge location

What I asked for was "Navigate to my nearest CCS chargepoint"

I tend to use Waze for in car navigation. It's always bang up to date. Live traffic updates for almost everything, shows GPS speed, speed camera awareness including mobile cameras, traffic light camera awareness, traffic conditions, weather etc. It automatically runs on Android Auto after installation. Gives good voice control of all the usual things in your car. It is also configurable for EV's to show where charging points are, what brand the chargers are, what connection types are available etc etc. And of course it will navigate you straight there.
As a keen motorcyclist I also use it for my motorcycle navigation. Yes, it's configurable for motorcycles too! So it tells me what bus lanes I can use etc. Saves me loads of time & miles. Best bit is Waze is free.

Will it even be able to do complex stuff like "Can you please find a CCS charger in 100 miles from my current position, along the shown route"

Would be nice to be able to not have to wait until you are low on power, before discovering you just passed the last CCS your car will be able to reach before running out.

If it is told that in 100 miles you need a charger, it could find the best one already hours before you need it.

I did an experiment today while waiting for her indoors to do a bit of shopping.

I asked Google to navigate to Burnham-on-sea, roughly 10 miles away, which it did. I then asked it to show chargers on route, to which it showed me chargers nearby.

I then asked it to show me chargers within 3 miles of destination, to which it showed me nearby chargers again.

Finally, I asked it to show me chargers near Burnham-on-sea, and success, it showed me the chargers I know are near there, and asked if I wanted to navigate to them.

Yes, you can configure the app to show charging stations with a certain type of connection. You can put in way points along your journey showing charging stations with those connection types. It's straight forward stuff actually. Of course, you can use your voice commands as you drive to assist. Never tried to totally plan a drive with way points using just voice but maybe you can. It's one of the smartest nav apps out there. It's actually made by Google, the same folks who make Android Auto. But it's better than AA in my opinion.
