Hi everyone….

Considering a change from MG4 to MGS5…..

I have seen a dealership on Carwow advertising the LR Trophy for 25K…..a significant reduction.

They may be pre-reg, but even so…..25K is a significant reduction, so much so that it makes me wonder what the catch is.

Another dealer was selling the same vehicle for the same price, but with a 6.5% apr on the PCP which somewhat nullified the savings……

I read somewhere that a batch of MGs were destined for the USA, but were stopped due to the new trade tariffs…….cant see that this is true as a left hand drive would be a bit of a giveaway….

Anyway, should I be concerned over these cars being sold at such a reduced price?

Cheers!

Nope, snap it up. You can get cheaper than that, if you shop around. 🙂👍

There is no catch. The RRP is an artificially raised price that nobody pays. Finance companies buy their cars from the manufacture (in bulk, obviously) at 30 to 50% discount off the RRP price. The vehicle will only be worth £12K trade in after 2 to 3 years, depending on condition and mileage, so you'll still loose 50% by purchasing new if you sell it within that time.

Sure, spend £25K+ on a new car if you like new cars, but be prepared to lose £££ however much you see that as a bargain.

Personally I prefer to buy 3 year old cars at 40% of their original price and run them for 5+ years, but each to their own. We need people buying or leasing new cars so there is a nice supply of good second-hand ones ;)

Agreed, that was normally my mantra, but due to a merging of the stars meant we had to buy our MG4 brand new. Fortunately one of those stars ( the French government ) said get a new electric car and basically we will pay its first two years depreciation costs. So I now have a two year old car car valued at around the price we paid, since then all the available grants for Chinese cars have gone leaving any discounts to the vagaries of MG FR. So it pays to sometimes abandon well believed principles and dive in feet first.
I know the depreciation for the next 3-4 years will be more than I would normally like to lose but that's offset by knowing that the car is not a lemon which has been dumped onto the secondhand market and suffering the risks and costs that entails.

I picked up an MG MGS5 for £24k 1 week ago trading my 1st 1000 2020 MG ZSEV. I gathered that MG had given a discount to dealerships to get some seen on the road before the introduction of some similar rivals.

Feb '26 and local MG dealer is quoting £25k flat for MGS5 Trophy in any colour I like - but must pay IN FULL (i.e. cash) before end March 2026. That's about £9,400 saving over RRP. What's going on??
Also offered 4 yr PCP deal at alleged 0% APR - but only at full RRP. That's not 0% - it's just short of 18% APR!
Are they wanting to get more MGS5's on the road by offering nearly 30% discount?

£9,400 saving is good. But other have got a Grand more off. Look around. 🙂👍
I'm fortunate (I think) that there's 3 different MG dealerships within 15 miles of me. 2 have already quoted £25k - so just get the third and then face them off against each other!!

I might also look for the first 2 services and some mats thrown in for good measure !! Wish me luck!!

I paid £24.5k last July, they want market share...

They will have sales targets to reach, if you look on the car sales sites you will find many such deals towards the end of the month/quarter. I got my own this way back in July last year.

Mine new unregistered MGS5 Trophy Long Range in Black is being delivered tomorrow.
£23,999 on the road. If you go into the adverts a lot of them are stating the price applies in you are able to be part of the affinity scheme. :) :)
