I guess it was inevitable...

Octopus have just emailed to say they are reducing our solar export rates from 15p to 12p per kWh on the 1st of March.

Makes sense really. As more solar is connected to the grid the value of generation during the middle of the day will drop.

Already the wholesale cost is sometimes negative on sunny and windy days and that will only happen more and more.

What this means is that batteries become more valuable, whether your car or connected to your house. Also electric hot water heating (immersion heaters, heat pumps).

Agile Export tariff and Intelligent Flux (for people with some kinds of battery) will offer higher rates, but not during the middle of the day.

Damn click bait.. though you meant dropping all payments rather than dropping rate of payment ;)

Good to know though, maybe I won't try to pay to get on their non MCS export scheme after all.

Apologies, I've edited to make that clearer.

You have to pay now? Whaaaaa!!!???!?

The thing is, if they decline you only get back £100 of the £250.

Oh I see - there is a charge if you don't have an MCS certificate.

How much would an MCS approved installer charge you to check over your system and provide a certificate? Or are they not allowed to do that if they didn't do the work themselves?

The latter. Though there have been reports of companies that are about to quit their MCS membership doing some 'hush-hush' deals for around £500, IIRC.

My concerns about the OE scheme is that only applies to OE, so sort of ties you into them, once you've paid your money and, hopefully, been accepted.
