Octopus Go prices rising - again

They justify it through inflation in the network supply costs. Basically, like everyone else, their costs have gone up and so they need to increase the standing charge.
Government has also now instigated SCR which is socialised cost reinforcement, essentially DNOs can't charge the customer for certain types of reinforcement anymore, and instead the government have said they'll increase the standing charges to cover these costs, so basically certain types of connection reinforcement are now paid for by everyone not just the customer requesting the work.

Google Ofgem AccessSCR and it'll tell you all you need to know.

If only Octopus would give me an in home display unit I might have a better chance of costing things. Because I live on my own neither the washing machine or dishwasher are on every day. I’ll have to give it a couple of months to work out how much charging I do to judge.

What is reinforcement?

What is reinforcement?
Basically say you ask for a 100A supply at NPg were not allowed to diversify a 100A supply and say the cables or transformer on the network can't handle the 100A you're asking for before today you'd be asked to pay towards the cost of reinforcing the network to cope with the new connection you're asking for.

Now you won't in certain circumstances, and everyone who pays an electricity bill is covering the cost.

There are scenarios where you will still have to pay for reinforcement but not many

@sandra54 Your Octopus dashboard shows your usage by day, week or month graphically. If you are at all handy with Excel you can download your half hourly consumption data there too

There's also a few 3rd party Android apps (and I'm sure for IOS too) which show your usage. Try Bright, you can see it by the half hour in that.

Have you asked them?
They just gave me a new IHD that allows you to follow consumption on a phone App in real time.
Is that part of a beta programme? - I am on the list for their home device that you can connect to on an app, but I didn't think it was generally available.

You should be able to do an accurate costing by using your bills Or through the Octopus app after logging in.

I had my name down for that too but this is something different. It's a device called a Trio and it connects to the internet as well as the meter.

Lost count of the number of calls and e mails over the last 9 MONTHS! They just keep saying I’m on the list !!

No just an ordinary display, so I can see how much I’m spending in real time .

Just to be clear, I didn't randomly get a new IHD. I've just had my Meter Comms Hub replaced and the technician asked whether I'd like a replacement IHD. The old one was working OK but I took a chance hoping it would have a better range. In the event, it had a significantly worse range but that doesn't matter because you can put it close to the meter even if that places it somewhere you can't see. As long as it also gets your home WiFi signal, you can access the information on your phone or tablet.

Isn't that the Home Mini, not Trio Alb?

I was on the list for one of those yonks ago but it hasn't showed up... I get the data in other, more useful, ways though - primarily through my Home Assistant which although it's slightly lagged is pretty cool as (if I wanted to) I could do actions, send messages etc dependent on tariffs, or usage. I'm working on a display right now.

This is the manual for it:

Oh OK, I think it is different to the mini, but with similar functionality, for which they are saying there is a tens of thousands long queue!

Received today:

"Exciting news! Your Home Mini is on the way and will be with you in the next couple of weeks.

Your Home Mini will enable you to see incredibly detailed consumption data, including a live feed of exactly what your home is importing - or exporting - in real-time."

I’ve had mine for a while now. It’s useful to check usage at any time with the app, from anywhere with internet access.

I'm closing this thread down now because it's drifted totally from the opening topic.
Feel free to open a new thread dedicated to discussion of IHDs :)
