Hi all, will be an owner in the very near future :)
I'm looking to upgrade the very bland wheels to something a bit bigger and nicer, and I see the lug pattern is 5x112, same as many Mercedes Benz and Audi cars.

Has anyone here tried putting on those brands' OEM wheels? Is there any special consideration to the lug nuts?

Hi
Regarding the wheel studs just make sure they fit the wheel you are thinking of buying
There are tapered and domed bolts
As for the wheels themselves just be careful off the wheel width, diameter and offset
I replaced my wheels with the ones pictured below
I stayed with the 16” wheel diameter for the comfort but I did go for a 7” wide wheel and a 38mm offset just to make the wheels come out to the edge of the wheel arches
😃👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Yes, they need to match the new wheels seat.

Front fogs done
Just on with fitting front, rear and side splitters
I’m no longer a boy racer Im a middle aged man wishing he’d kept all his ford escorts from his boy racer days😂😂😂😂😂

You racer! 😉 There will be a marginal loss in efficiency from doing that but it looks a lot better.

It's a funny thing about wheels isn't it. It is all in the eye of the beholder, one persons Carlos Fandango wheel is another persons catastrophe. I quite like the oem wheels on the 5, but as I also have a Golf R with 19" Pretoria alloys, (now on the market) I thought I would do a swap to see if they fitted, and they do, so I can only conclude that VW wheels will be a direct swap, possibly Audi too.

"Fitted" is open to interpretation. Yes they had the same PCD and stud count so they fit, but what about the offset. Do they clear the inner wheel arch at full lock both ways at full suspension compression, how much of the outer face of the tyre protrude beyond the outer wheel arch? Obviously you don't want them to rub on the inner arches but there are rules about the tyre sticking out beyond the outer wing wheel arch.

Do they locate tightly on the spigot of the hub or is there a gap between the hole in the middle of the wheel and the raised spigot. There is an assumption that the wheels are located by the studs alone but the spigot has a role to play as well. The right wheels locate tightly on the spigot which requires close tolerances in manufacture increasing costs, they wouldn't do that if it wasn't needed.

Finally which nuts were used? If the VW ones fitted the studs that that is fine but if you had to use the MG's are they the right cone angle for the alloys?

Just to say, they are wheel bolts and not nuts ( used on wheel studs ) on the MG and on VW.
The angle of the countersink produced in the wheel ( rim ) ARE indeed different between the MG and the VW rim.
IF you do intend to use VW ( VAG ) rim(s) on a MG model - You will need to use VW wheel bolts to match the VW rim, in order to attach them safely to the car.
