Paulie's MG5 upgrades blog, Wheels, Suspension, Foot rest, & much more!

Saw the local dealer, who were helpful. Put in a claim for new wheels with MG, so we're waiting on that. Also confirmed the under bonnet rust would be covered by the 3 year paint warranty but I might want to wait until it gets a bit worse as then they'll probably authorise a new bonnet rather than have a body shop sand down and repaint as they most likely will at this early stage, then it might re-occur later out of warranty.

So I'm thinking over the bonnet action for now, the thought of waiting for rust to get worse irks me so unsure how I'll proceed on that one.

Yeah I'm just not a fan of the spoked alloys personally, they look a bit weird for my liking.
The covers would just be 3d printed, so no real cost outside of filament. PETG, ABS and ASA all cost about £18 for 1kg of filament.
But yeah that 5% is a free 10 miles, so may as well, since I've not got much on haha
To be noted though that aero covers only really work at higher speeds so of no benefit around town. But I do like a project, so have some fun and post info and pics when you have done.

Sounds like a possible get out waiting for it. If having the wheels done get the bonnet done in the same claim and then if it re-occurs later then it's a bad workmanship claim if out of warranty.

Yeah, I might just do that. Just could do without the hassle right now as the car is in daily use and on trailer duty as I'm renovating our new house and no doubt they'll want it in a body shop for a week!

Look forward to seeing your MG5! You've made a good start on part sourcing. Here's mine for comparison. 30/35mm lowered on 19" x 9.5" alloys, ET39. 225/40/R19 tyres, tinted windows, debadged and smaller plates.
I know it's a bit stalkers going this far back in the past but I had to ask.. does that not rub on full lock?! That looks stunning. I've been hunting for 7x18 for fears of chaffing but you're well beyond that!
All the best
Dan

I had my 2 year old in for a service last month. When I collected it, I was told that the gas struts for the bonnet were “an unauthorised modification” and that my warranty could be affected. Quite ridiculous - they don't adversely affect the car in any way. In any case, the car is owned not leased, so why do I need permission to modify my own property? I said that I had also changed the floor mats for others - do I need authorisation to do that? And where does the warranty T&C say authorisation is needed?

It's things like this which take the shine off the ownership experience!
Got any more details on the struts for the bonnet?

I considered building a frunk then adding a push button next to the charging socket, wiring it to a solenoid to pull the bonnet cable you can use the frunk for the charging cable without constantly pulling the bonnet release from the drivers seat!

Clever, but seems a lot of hassle.
