They're never going to tax the electricity itself, someone will have told them about VtG. They're going to have to find some way to make it work on a mileage basis.

Sadly unlikely to be possible in my lifetime. With the short winter days at our latitude and the sun only reaching 16 degrees above the horizon in mid-winter I calculated I'd need another 55 panels and another 30kWh of battery storage to get us through the darkest / rainiest week in December Either that, or battery storage of around 2MWh to see us through from Nov to Feb!

I think there are two issues here, the first being we all hoped the taxation incentives would have lasted a little longer having bought arguably more expensive cars with the benefit of lower ongoing costs.
The second bigger issue how our taxes are spent. Our infrastructure is creaking, the power network ,water and railways all need massive spending. Our military is a shadow of its former self, the NHS is crumbling and the road network is appalling. Yet we spend stupid amounts of money on projects like HS2, even the smallest change to a road junction requires spending the best part of £100k on consultation before a 6 figure sum is spent on doing the work. Then there's the money given to their 'mates' by the government for consultation, sub standard PPE etc. We all recognise 3p per mile as the thin end of the wedge, along with frozen tax bands.

We privatised everything for quick tax cuts to win elections, gave our oil to foreign venture capitalists, unlike Norway who built a sovereign wealth fund, we told our utilities to cut bills and not to invest, preferred assets strippers to sound business, deskilled and deindustrialised.

We voted for this & division and still will do so.

In France, Germany, Spain, Japan, China, each have built 1000's of miles of high speed railway. China built 21,000 miles quicker than HS2 took to get through planning.

Why do things cost so much? We invest using debt, we apply excessive processes & governance, we no longer employ or empower people who can do things without all this waste. I can deliver a project for a fraction of the normal delivery costs and do. The business doesn't like my maverick approach.

I'd love to see someone try to track my charging behaviour when, for 9 months of the year, it comes from my own solar panels

I thought I'd give it try this month (charging from my solar not tracking your charging!). So far this month I've added 87 kWh of which 83 had been solar the rest from 70% setting on ECO+ on the Zappi.

According to the report it's £92 billion. Not much really as the UK Interest Payment on the National Debt for February was £13 billion, so 7 months' worth. Bargain.
