"Please focus on driving".

When I bought my MGS5 I was told by the sales person that it would almost certainly be an issue due to being a glasses wearer. I assumed that this was a known issue. Like others have mentioned it is part of my 'off' options via MG pilot.

Ah, you can go to mgpilot and turn off all the stuff you don't want, then long press the custom button on screen to save it. Next time you drive you only have to tap the mgpilot button to activate/deactivate your settings.
Sooo helpful, thank you! Just managed to do that in my new HS. Phew!

But i would love to know all the scenarios that trigger that warning!
I have found that if you look away from the straight ahead position at all !.
Like maybe to use the info screen, it will warning ⚠️ instantly !.
Yawning 🥱 is an absolute NO - NO as it will throw up the “Buy a Costa” coffee cup ☕️ on the screen, it’s far too sensitive imho and very distracting when you are driving.
If the “Take a break” warning is triggered, it will stop ✋ when you slow to an almost stop, at a junction / roundabout but if you are on the motorway it will drive you mad !.

According to the NCAP review the MG5S only gets 0.9 out of 2 for Driver Monitoring so maybe they don't think it's very good either:

Mine was going off every second (until I turned it off in Custom settings) and I think I may have found out why. I wear reactolite glasses which were darkened and hence reflective, hence the spy cam couldn't see my eyes. I tried driving without my glasses (I can still see reasonably well!) and this calmed the alarm down hugely.
Anyone else tried this and do all the people who have problems wear glasses?

Yes indeed, I wear glasses for driving and it went berserk yesterday, the sun was directly ahead and I concluded that it was that that made it flash up around 3 times a second.

My brother has a new Volvo EV and his car was doing the same thing, it was his reactolite glasses causing the problem.

In aviation, we call it alarm fatigue. It is very dangerous.
Have to say Timothy this is the most unrelaxed drive I have experienced in my 5 EVs. You never know what the blasted car is going to throw at you next! I have turned off nearly every safety feature now just for a quiet drive. Going to be an interesting conversation with the dealer next week but I have to be honest having had another look around and I can't find anything even a couple years old that compares to the MG value for money on the S5 other than a 2nd hand Tesla Model Y and I will never go there due to a certain Mr Musk and his behaviour.

snap, I have X-tra Active Transitions so they darken in the car.

You can switch all the unwanted alarms off, and save your settings, so it's not worth dumping the car for.

I know thats an option but having come from Hyundai where the safety systems were useful and gave very few false alarms it feels like I am downgrading in terms of safety. I wonder where we would stand on insurance too with everything turned off by choice if something serious did happen, could the insurance company tell and would it degrade the NCAP rating with them off?

I am trying to find a reasonable compromise of settings that are not too intrusive but still add some safety enhancements to my driving experience. I am getting there I think but even last night it threw up a bank of Yellow alarms after I set off telling me LKA, ELK, Front and Rear Collision were faulty and a yellow triangle symbol on the dash. A mile down the road they all went off and apparently back to normal. Just loosing confidence in it and it's difficult to tell if it is just software or is it actually defective some how.

The Red 'Tale Control of your vehicle I have had twice since turning off both Driver Fatigue and Monitoring systems so I have emailed MG and asked them what triggers it in the hope I can identify which safety system is screaming at me and braking the car for no reason.

Be grateful you didn't buy a Kia, most of the annoying beeps and warnings cannot be turned off at all on the EV3 etc.

thats not good...the Kona was always easy as two buttons on the steering wheel but then it was 4 years old when I changed for the MGS5 so probably different now on Kia/Hyundai.

When will NCAP/manufacturers realise this technology actually is not perfect and let us have better control. As you say the MG Custom button is a blessing from that point of view although would be nice if it also applied to drive settings like Regen and mode too.

That was probably caused by condensation in front of the camera at the top of the screen behind the rear view mirror. As you drove down the road the condensation cleared.

If it really bothers you on these colder mornings activate the demister on the iSmart app a few minutes before you set off.

The MGS5 has to meet the latest stricter NCAP requirements to get its 5 stars whereas your Hyundai had to meet the less strict requirements from a few years ago from when that model was first released.

Thanks Ian, with it being vision based with no lidar/radar that makes sense. Next week when I leave choir I will check to see if it is covered or not before I set off. The Kona meeting older standards also makes sense.

NCAP standards need to be managed better I think, as Timothy says it is potentially distracting to the point of being fatiguing at times but at least we have some custom settings we can set quickly unlike some other cars.

Took the car out tonight and got the limited forward assist function. Pulled over and wiped the windscreen camera area and by the time I got back in the car the warnings had gone.

Thanks for the tip Ian as long as I know thats why I can work around it. I wonder how many people who reported reliability issues with their MGs in that Which survey were simple things like this that if MG had a decent manual and the dealer network were a bit more knowledgeable would never have been put down as reliability.

Appreciate the guidance, much happier about the yellow warning messages now. Just need to confirm I have got rid of the Red ones telling me to take control next and I can get to enjoy the drive more.

Thanks John. It's getting used to MG's quirks and remembering they are still a relatively new manufacturer. I have a slight advantage as I previously had a MG4.

I'm sure if you go onto other forums for BYD, Omada, Jaecoo etc. their owners will have similar complaints. Mind you it's not just Chinese cars that have problems, Mercedes owners are complaining about driveshafts needing replacing and heating problems and having to pay for the repair because the warranty has expired. At least most of MGs faults are software related and covered by the warranty.
