My journeys through the winter will be basically local in radius of 20ish miles how long should I precondition the battery and for how long before the journey, and do I do this before charging, all so confusion! Thank you all

Just get in the car and drive it, most of the rest is a distraction. I don't have home charging and have never used the battery heating. I have had no problems charging except for it being a bit slow to ramp up when it's really cold and have had the car for 3 years.

I wouldn't bother at all unless you're on your way to a charging station to do a fast charge. However, if it's a chilly morning, it's worth heating the cabin up for 5 minutes from the app before you begin your journey.
Thank you

Ah ;) precondition thats a luxury if you have it on your vehicle !
Precondition is when your battery is low and ready to charge on CCS in colder weather.
As soon as I leave in 2-4am when the battery is charged sometimes its warm or sometimes it cold i get less range in the morning journey say 130-170miles on the return i get 10% more as the battery warms up in the day ambient temperatures. I stick the battery heater on when I leave so it may assist charging speeds. I only pick altra rapid as you get 65-90 kw prh for a while then drops to 60-50ish when 70-80% then 40ish to 30ish over 80-90% soc will happy site to 99% SOC on some rapids as they drop 12-9kw pr hr ropping up :)

Not really worth pre-heating the battery when charging on AC, as you will/may use more electricity to pre-heat than you gain in charging speed from charging a cold battery. Benefits are mostly when DC charging.
