Does/has anyone successfully used public charging stations?
I tried two today, a Mer one and a Pod, and at both was unable to actually get the car to charge.
At the Mer one the car kept aborting the charge with the control unit saying it was ready but an error occurred so to try reconnecting the cable. The Mer app showed the unit as charging but ISmart app showed not charging and every time I tried to start it charge it said failed.
At the Pod it was at a tescos and I used the Zapmap app, again Zapmap said it was charging but the ISmart showed not.
No scheduled charging was set, I’ve been using granny charger at home ok, I tried multiple times unplugging the cable, unlocking/relocking but nothing i did seemed to allow the car to want to charge.

Am I missing something? Is there a special method to get the car to talk to these chargers so it will charge?

Are you trying to sit in the car while it is charging? My car will not charge unless it is locked.
No was being sneaky and taking advantage of not having to pay for parking while charging and there being actual spaces available in the electric bays unlike main car park 🤣 tried starting while locked and unlocked to no avail

Occassionally I have had issues getting a charge to start but after a couple of disconnects and reconnects Ive got charging to work at several Tesco podpoints (Manchester, Salford, Nottingham) Fuuse (Lancaster) and ConnectedKerb (Cambridge). The worst one was a Wattif charger late at night in Cambridge which locked up and wouldnt release the cable! I Think their support desk was in Denmark so emails and phone calls went on till the small hours of the morning until they rebooted the charger and I could remove my cable.
I always use the CPO's app instead of Zapmap to avoid any third party interference (often a bit cheaper too).
I know you have said you haven't any scheduled charging set, but double check both the cars infotainment screen and the MG app, just in case.
My rough guide is anything over 45-50p per kWhr is more expesnive than petrol.
Hope you get the issue sorted soon.
