Range - 80%

Only been using the car a few days and I have a question about range. Charged to 80% last night and the MG app is showing the range is 175 miles. I have the Trophy so I would expect it to be well into the 200 mile plus range. Do I have an issue? New to EV cars. We did a long motorway ride of about 120 miles round trip last night with the ac heating and then sat in traffic for a while finding parking. Would this impact it the displayed range.

You are correct, you should be seeing around 215 - 220 miles of predicted range at 80% SOC ( state of charge ).
You DON’T have a problem, what you have is a predicted ( that is the key word here ) range of 175 miles, based on your previous journeys, driving style and HVAC use etc.
The car stores historically data to produce these figures.
Go back to your car and with the car booted up, reset the trips by pressing and hold the down the black centre button ( I think it has what looks like two overlapping squares printed on it ) on the right hand side of the steering wheel.
There you go !.
Bingo - There is the 200 plus miles you thought you should have seen .
Again - These are merely a prediction / estimate.

Things that will affect your range most are, how you drive, where you drive and the temperature.
The gom as Lovemyev explains above shows the range it thinks you will get based on previous trips.
Motorway driving at 70 = shorter range, likewise if you live in hilly country the climb up uses more power than the run down gives back.
We're coming into winter and the temperature was very low this last week or so and that is probably the biggest culprit for shorter range.
You'll get used to it though and your thinking will adapt to suit what you need.

Why ?.
If you reset the trips, charge to 80% and recheck inside the car, you should have a predicted range of around 220 ish miles on a S5.

There you go !.
Normal service as been resumed, did you check it in your P.J’s by any chance .
You have cleared the historic data in the car now and it will start calculating all over again.
Your long motorway trip with bad weather and with the heater etc running, almost represents the worst case scenario.
If your next journeys are a mix of town driving in better weather conditions, with no use of the HVAC etc, then you we see that the 220 miles of predicted range will be more accurate.

We really should tell @dx4100 what everyone in the EV community calls those gauges that estimate range. Doesn't matter if you drive an MG, a VW ID or a Tesla . . . they are a GOM.

Just remember that doesn't mean you have that range, it can adjust very quickly downwards with the type of drive you do next (speed, HVAC, outside temp taken into consideration)
MG4s get about 250ish summer and 180-190ish in winter, MGS5 won't be far off that either way I'd imagine.

If I remember correctly, you get a warning at either 30 or 40 remaining miles.
After this it will start to drop fairly quickly.
I am not a person who charges on the move tbh, but personally I would be giving it some thought at about 50 miles remaining myself.
Best to build in a bit of redundancy here, just in case you arrive and there is a problem and you have to move to the next charger.

The more you drive it the better it will get at "Guessing" what your range is for a specific charge. They don't call it a "Guess O Meter" for nothing.

Normally go down to 10% ISH on long journeys

We only do road trips once or twice a year. So when we're on the out-bound leg, I'll usually be looking for a charger at around 20%. However on the return leg, where I know with 100% certainty I can park and charge on the front drive . . . well, then I'll drive it down to 1%. Or less . . . .

I'd start looking for a charger depending on the range left according to the GOM and what I would feel comfortable with. Using the % left will give a different range depending on the time of year and how you've been driving.

Charged to 80% yesterday and was looking 238 on the gom, did go down slightly once the heating went on as was a little chilly. Always drive in eco mode, depending on road i'm on usually on regen 3, regen 1 on the motorway.
I was getting 312 on the gom during the warmer weather at 100% state of charge.
Consumption has dropped in the cooler weather down to 4.2.

With 3.7 average efficiency (my average is probably worse than this tbh), 80% is about 180

Not with both trips reset though ?.
Your average efficiency has no bearing on the predicted range, after trips has been wiped.
As the car has no historical data stored, it now reads the energy in the pack and as the pack is so new, then you should expect it to read north of 200 plus.

I use ABRP to plan my charge stops in advance. I’m happy to take it down to around 10% or even less, but I wouldn’t start looking for a charger at that point. I would already know where it is and that I’m not too far from it.
