Well This was my Nextbase rear camera being fitted, for those intending to do similar reference to my fitting the 522gw wired to the OBD port will be useful as the early parts are the same, other makes of camera are available but the fitments the same.
The dedicated rear camera from Nextbase plugs into the right side of certain of their cameras so installing is a case of running the cable to the back of the car, I found it straight forward and very easy tucking it into the headliner, door seals as before all the way back to the rear boot pillar.
Once there it can get a bit messy, you need to remove the seal from the rear boot which meets the headliner, MG use a non permanent adhesive which will pull into threads, it doesn’t need to be wiped away, that would potentially cause issues, just be aware and keep your fingers clear.
With the seals removed you have access to under the head liner, don’t move it more than you have to but you can feed the cable to the right hand cable access, initially I went for the left one but much more going through it so far harder to feed through, right much easier, I have a cable pull in the tool kit which made it very simple. Be aware, simplest way would be to remove both the top and bottom grommets, but I found the bottom would not budge so fed through the top, coating of litium grease let it fit back in place easily and maintain the waterproof seal.
From there ideally I’d have liked to remove the trim panel that runs across the boot lid over the rear wiper motor, from previous installs I know it should pop off but even with my widest trim tool it wouldn’t budge so for now cable has been fed to the central round grommet and secured with good old gaffa tape, it’s secure, out of the way, safe and invisible from the outside, it’ll have me waking up in a cold sweat and screaming at 3 in the morning, but needs must.
All Woking perfectly, does take a while setting up the view, the mount is magnetic so lot of adjustment, works well, I’ll get some proper views when I get it out on the road tomorrow.
