Sounds like the motor or the mechanism just needed a quick "nudge" by lifting up on the wiper arm.
The weight of the snow against the motor trying to turn, may have locked it up.
Well at least you know where the problem lies now if it happens again.

Mine has just gone now with 182km
I have taken it off and opened up to see what’s wrong.
I see the brushes are very small in them and 1 of the 2 is totally worn out.
I have ordered 2 off Ali express.
Size ordered 4x4x 10 mm
Will solder the new ones in and see how I get on. Will update with photos, just in case anyone else wants to do it.
