Reliability worry

Hello all

Currently waiting on delivery of lease car.

Mg4 trophy my23. The more I read on this car the more I’m thinking of cancelling lease.

From paint issues ripping seats and faults this car looks more and more of a bad choice

What would everyone say knowing how their car has been?

Been enjoying mine for the last 15k KMs and going strong. I believe i got the standard range 425km (this is BS once you turned the AC on it drop for like 50 km on the range :)) with 50kWh battery. My experience so far been mixed, still on thr positive side though. just finished periodic 15k interval maintenance, no major issues. The minor issues however is quite a handful.
1. after driving for about 4k km my internal rear view mirror falls off literally :D this was fixed free of charge during my 5k initial periodic maintenance.
2. after about 7k km my ADAS system start glitching, the LKA, ACC, FCA and RCA turned off somewhat randomly, sometimes immediately after start or during driving not sure why. This was fixed by reinstalling/updating the software.
3. my trunk misalligned slightly so it have a 1/2 cm drop at the gap between the left turn signal assembly and the trunk assembly. All of this was fixed at the 15k km periodic maintenance
4. my front bumper also have a slight misalignment that the gap between front bumper and front headlight are noticeably different between left and right headlighy :). all of this was fixed once again during 15k km periodic interval
5. power steering warning light comes and goes, the service manager think its a software bugs since the power steering was ok after inspection during the 15k km maintenance.
6. the wall charger been replaced once under warranty after 2 months in use. so far the replacement looks good after 4 months, finger crossed.

aside from that minor issues all is good! fun little car, save some money from switching to electricity, with 0-100 km in 7s and RWD its fun with capital F! the suspension is a bit firm though after it sets in, good on track or countryside roads but can be taxing if the road is uneven, has a rough surface or god forbid a potholes :)

my only other worries are on how this car holds up after 5 years + because I plan to keep it for 10 years since EV depreciate a LOT so in 10 years it will write off by it self :D

Just remember that the vast majority of MG4 are extremely reliable and in my case, after 3 years, I have had absolutely zero problems. And at the end of the 4 year PCP, I have every intention of getting another.
Please bear in mind that it is perfectly possible that some of the scare stories could be posted by competitors.

Yeah people posting about issues on here are liars and work for different car manufacturers.
Shocking attitude to members

I've been here for years and I don't think I have ever seen a "scare story" posted by competitors.

You are right that the cars are mostly reliable - as is every model from every maker these days. Cars have come a long way in the last 130 years.

But MG is at the bottom of both the dealer satisfaction and owner reliability lists, so there are issues that need dealing with. I should know, I have had a bunch of them.

I still think MG EVs are excellent value for money and a good drive and a good fit for many people - but I am not blind to the flaws with software, aftersales care and the various faults chronicled here over the years.

Yes, sometimes when someone has a fault with their car and/or receives bad aftersales service, it turns them very negative against the whole brand. But that is their right and the rest of us can weigh up what they say and see if we each think it is an overreaction.

Yes, non-enthusiasts tend to go on forums like these when they have an issue and yes, that probably makes things look worse than they actually are. And yes, every manufacturer has people on forums complaining about faults.

But we should not ignore problems and we should be vocal about them and push MG to get better and turn a promising EV brand into a great one.

Don't be so naive. It happens all the time. People rubbishing competitors products. Do you trust all the reviews online?
Brilliant don't be so naive, I don't know where to start!

I'm sure numerous other car manufacturers are getting employees to come on MG EVs just to bad mouth MGs

Ignoring the bickering ......... from reading this forum it would seem that the Trophy spec cars are more prone to issues, especially software-related ones, than the SE spec cars are. That would obviously colour people's experience. :)

Perhaps you should Google Economic Espionage by Social Media. And then tell me it doesn't happen. It is one of the fastest growing methods used by competitors using social media.

Yeah on social media not on an ev forum dedicated to a specific brand with just a few hundred or so members.

One problem is that some posters report issues and failures and then fail to report remedies or subsequent interactions with dealers. An AI LLM will be biased by this one-sided information and, it seems, that people believe such models without recourse to searching and interpreting the information themselves.

To me, AI is as good as MG Software: works on simple things but fails on complex controls and issues.

There is also the theory that people join the forum as they have an issue and are looking for help and when they post some members jump on them and accuse them of being trolls and they don't come back to provide any update.

Ok mate. Lets agree to disagree. Don't want to ruffle feathers.
However, this website could well be read by a large number of people who are not necessarily members.
This is true of all such forums.

Yes they probably appear to give an overly negative view of the product, because of the I-have-a-problem-so-I-will-find-a-forum tendency.

The solution isn't to impunge the motivation of the posters, it is just to remind people - as many of us do - that there is a silent majority of happy owners.

You know the first part of your original post was absolutely great, highlighting your positive experience with your car. I just wish you'd stopped there.

My experience so far has also been quite good. I had one broken tire pressure sensor (which likely happened during a tire replacement), but it was actually covered under warranty. The LED headlights failed once (completely dark at night — not even the daytime lights were on), which was very scary. Luckily, I noticed it right away, and the issue was gone after locking and unlocking the car. It seems to have been one of those one-in-a-million bugs and has never happened again.

Yep, had a few of those. Summut goes wrong. You sit there scratching ya head.
Next time you get in ya car it's gone. Never to return. 🤷‍♂️ 🙄🤪
