Replacement tyres

When I got the car it had 3 different makes of tyre on it including a Sunny, so they had to go before winter.

I got a set of four GoodYear Vector 4 Season Gen 3 tyres on Monday, cost £512. I'm impressed with them so far.

Need to do some serious man maths to make a new car seem cheaper than a new set of tyres.
Actually the maths sometimes works out. If I was able to get of my finance with no penalties before the MOT is due , before a third service and before needing to replace the tyres, then getting into a new lease vehicle with one month's rental up front would make sense. Unfortunately the timing is the thing that's preventing me as I'm about 5 months away from having zero financial liability

I've had Michelin Cross Climate 2's fitted on the rears last week. There is definitely a difference in feel. I've asked Express Tyres to get me another pair to fit on the front before we head North in October. Checking the invoice the tyres themselves are £154ea, it's the new valves, balancing and disposal costs that shove the final balance up. I'm sure balancing used to be 'free'🤔

The Good Years were £128 each, which was the fitted price. Was going to have the Cross climates again but the Good Years were cheaper and came out very well in reviews.

Yeah I feel like balancing should be included when you buy tyres as it isn't optional. I can understand a place charging for a balance if that's all they're doing.

How much was the balancing? The last few sets of tyres I've had didn't list it as an item on the invoice, it was included in the tyre price.

We have just traded in our ZS EV ( Gen 2 ) with 26,000 miles on the clock, when it was last serviced in March 2025 the health check reported roughly 5mm of thread still remaining on the Mich’s.
Given that the tread was only about 7mm (ish )to start with.
So had we have kept the car, I guess we would have reached 30,000 miles on the same tyres 🛞 without no problems 🤷🏻.
It was very similar situation on the previous ZS EV we had before that one.
The last tyres 🛞 I bought was in 2018 !.
I think they were £20 each 🤣.

I have never bought tyres for a car where balancing was not included. The price always includes balancing and new valve stems (unless you have tpms ) in which case they replace the valve internals.

That's what we used to do when I worked at a tyre shop, it was all included in the price of the tyre (except alignment but again that's not always necessary when fitting tyres). We would list these items on the invoice but of course no extra charge.

£2.00 per valve🤨, £5.00 per wheel balancing😠, £1.50 per wheel disposal charge😳...then VAT😠
