Screen freeze

I was using Apple Car Play and the screen froze. The physical buttons did nothing. Stopped and tried getting out and locking car but it was the same so I got on this forum and found out about holding the Home button which cleared it. Annoying that it did it I am hoping it isn’t a regular problem.

It happened to me once on the motorway. Fortunately, I'd seen the thread on here and held down the home button whilst driving along. Problem solved and it hasn't happened again.

When I booked my car in for a service last week the dealer told me they would be updating the screen software due to a recall for an issue with screens freezing.

Isn't it easier to update it ourselves? Why do we need to visit dealers for that?
