Hello All,

I’m new here just bought an MG4 LR SE.

I’m looking at servicing and also how this affects the 7 year warranty.

My Car was registered on the 01/02/2024 and its done 9990 Miles.

So I’m guessing as I don’t know where to look for any service history that it’s due first service, are there any penalties for it being slightly late as it’s been sat on a garage forecourt prior to me buying it?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.
James

If you've just bought it from an MG Dealer, they should have given it it'd second service before they sold it to you, what did they tell you about getting it serviced?

MG dealers will have it on record if it's been serviced, if it hasn't then the warranty may be void as they only allow 1 month or 1000 miles over. If you bought it from a dealer and it's been sat on their forecourt then they may be able to resume the warranty through MG by servicing it now. If you bought it from elsewhere then maybe not.

Hi Clive,

It’s the first service it needs I think 1 year or 10,000 miles.
It wasn’t from an MG main dealer., I asked for service history ie log book and they said it’s too new.

I’ve a printed out by them records sheet that has the following:
Date. Service. mileage. Dealership
01/02/2024 PDI 0. MG UK
12/02/2025. Multi Point inspect. 9990. Big MW

Thanks
James

Right, if that’s the case then it will be going back.

So this was the official MG response, I just need my V5C which I should get any day to be able to get a dealership to check for me.

“A missed or delayed service would void any component directly or consequently effected by the missed or delayed service.

Example:

A missed oil service (minor A) would void any components affected by the passage of oil. i.e. engine, turbo, catalytic converter, gpf and so on.
However, this would not affect the OSR window regulator or say a faulty door latch.

Only an MG dealership can confirm warranty status of any MG vehicle. Please contact your dealership about the duration of warranty periods/about any warranty repairs.”

So it seems that the whole warranty would not be void, just the bits for the particular missed service, however I would prefer it not to be void in anyway, I shall see once I get a V5C through.

Oh well, guess it is reassuring to know that MG understand the MG4 so well - doh!

Ha probably not the best example to use for an EV but I guess they are saying that not all parts of the warranty would be void, if any.

If you're late with the service you might lose the paint protection warranty, for example, as a paintwork inspection is supposed to be part of every service.

I’ll see what they say when I get my V5C, I’ll ring my local dealer, book a service (if needed) and see what’s what.

This thread is also a worthwhile read for your situation. IMHO make sure you reject it soon enough unless you can get a cast-iron written confirmation from MG UK, not just a dealer that may not be around in a few months time.

Also what happens if something goes wrong with the HV battery, for example? I'd bet my bottom dollar that MG would say it didn't have its inspection (albeit only visual) so they were unable to take remedial action in the case of (for example) water ingress or other wiring failure, so any failure is not covered.

Hi, if you send me the VIN in private, I can check the service history in the system and send you the report.

Thank you for the offer very kind.
I have just been on the phone with my local MG dealer and they have said as long as my service is done soon the warranty will be valid so I’ve booked in for next week and confirmed with them that my mileage will be around 10,400 by them.
They said even if the company I bought the car from did attempt the same service it wouldn’t go on the MG digital service log.

So all being well I will be up to date next week, they also confirmed I need the latest software update.

I was under the impression that the paint warranty inspection was an optional extra which the dealer could charge extra for doing and reporting on the inspection. If you don't ask you don't get, although that may vary dealer to dealer. Without the inspection that part of the warranty would be void ?
Perhaps Miles could verify?
