MG4 SE SR
We have a MG4 SE SR which is due its first service.
The dealer has said "the only software updates that will be carried out as standard will be the software update for the lane assist. The only other time that we are allowed to do software updates is if you have any particular concerns with your car & an update would resolve that issue."
The car's current software is R21 and I believe that there has been an R33 and the current version is R38.
Perhaps those updates have just been for trivial glitches, but I would have thought that doing an update would give some significant benefits.
(Outside temperature display would be good to have.)
@siteguru has said "Fortunately my dealer works with me and will raise Service NOW (SNOW) cases in order to get the updates applied with MG paying."
How does this work?
What are my chances of persuading my dealer to do an upgrade?

(I've read the recent thread To Update or Not? which is helpful, but my instinct is to try and get the latest software.)

One obvious thing with 1100R21 ... there is no external temperature indication (as you've noted). In cold weather this could be a safety issue (use that angle) as you're unaware of how low the temperature has got. (You only get one "bong" when the temperature dips below 4°C ... if the temperature dips lower then you've no indication of this). 1100R33 returns the indication (in 0.5°C increments), and 1100R38 retains it (but in 1°C increments).

1100R33 also introduces the LDP On button in the pulldown menu, although that's moot once SC077 is applied as LKA works very well now for me.

And Her Ladyship ;) is right re. HVAC ... 1100R38 (together with an associated HVAC module update) vastly improves how well the HVAC performs ... for me mine now works just as I would expect.

No - I've just been told by my dealer that this is what they do when requesting support/approval from MG UK.

I went through this 2 weeks ago when my 1 year old SE LR went for its first service. I asked on several occasions for the latest software updates but the garage only did the LKA improvement (steering and braking software modules). The car is leased through Zenith….I don’t know whether that affects willingness?

I was prompted by the service assistant to mention a glitchy infotainment screen, slow to open, occasionally going black, slow button access. That kind of thing, otherwise it wouldn't have been updated with the lka. I did and I'm happy that it has improved.

I’ve just had my second service and they’ve done what they said was a recall update. At last the lane assist just beeps and died not throw you across road!! Worth the service cost alone!!!

I really want to like the MG but the infotainment glitches and LKA etc make it soooo frustrating.

An example is listening to the radio. I drive to the local supermarket which has an underground car park. Radio signal disappears underground, as you'd expect, but drive out again and the radio is lost. It gets stuck on FM and won't respond to retuning or volume or anything! Only cure is either reset the system with long press of home....whole effin' lot resets or park up, turn car off and on again.

I mean, really? Back in the 1950s they'd managed to get radios to work in cars 🤨

Have you had the SC077 software update for the LKA and have you asked your dealer to update the infotainment software mentioning the radio problem?

We bought the car at one year old from a local dealer. It had a fault with the passenger seat recliner which they agreed to repair under warranty. Whilst waiting for replacement parts I noticed the general infotainment glitches, the Bluetooth problems, and the LKA (which, to my mind, is downright dangerous). These I mentioned to the dealer and they said they'd get a software update done at same time as fixing the seat.

I don't know what SC077 is or whether that is/was what's on the car but if they've done the update it's not improved it. It's due a service in a few months time so I'll mention it again beforehand and see what they say. By the way, it's a 2023 Trophy.
