Should software get updated during a service?

Just taken my MG4 in for first service hoping the software would get updated to the most recent. I was told this only happens if a fault is found on the car and definitely not during the service. Am I being told porky pies?

As far as I have experienced and read on this forum you only get updates authorised or mandated by MG. This means SCUK001 only unless you have raised faults that can be corrected by an update and MG have authorised the update (for which the dealer will be paid by MG). An infotainment system update is not included in SCUK001. Some dealers have done extra for goodwill.

The only s/w upgrades the dealer has to do are those assorted with faults or if instructed by MGUK.
My SE SR is still at the same sw version as when I bought it. And everything seems to be working ok.
