I have a new MG4 Trophy LR which I picked up on 21st March
I have a few issues which I have reported to the dealer with little response
Cab someone tell me if they are known faults and they have been fixed because the dealer assured me all software upgrades would be applied during PDI

The first is the aircon. This is wrongly calibrated so I have so set it about 5 degrees above the required temperature
The second is the radio. It will stop playing and I have to select the station list and reselect the station and it starts again
Third is the traffic sign recognition. About 80% of the time it does not work. It either works on a journey ir it doesnt. ie it isnt on amd off on a journey. I have found no way of activating it when it does not work
Finally the 360 degree camera will sometimes stay on when I change from reverse to drive and I find myself driving along with the rear view showing which is quite distracting

Is there any easy way of knowing the software version on my car

You can only easily confirm the infotainment software version, every other module is harder to find.

It would give an indication if some updates have been done. If the infotainment isn’t up to date it puts in doubt any other updates having been done.

It is found somewhere in the infotainment screen settings tab, but I fail to recall exactly where.

Aircondition scale is known to be different from what you would expect. Just set it higher to you liking

Speed recognition is very hit or miss. If you do not adhere to the speeds or expects long enough it will turn it off. You can turn it back on again on the Driving or MG Pilot menu. Also read the manual where it's explained how it works in detail.

A/C is fixed by an update to the HVAC module software (which you can't [easily] see the version of) together with an update to the Infotainment software (which you can see), to make the HVAC work properly and show a corrected temperature scale.

Before update, set A/C target to 24 or 25°C ... after update set it to 21°C. :)

On the Trophy the pertinent Infotainment software version is 1300R63 IF your software version starts with SWI68 ... if it starts with SWI131 or similar then disregard the advice above as I have no clear knowledge of the SWI131 series.

I’m on R59 infotainment (trophy) and I get those issues, but I just live with those little ‘features’. The big issue always seems to be the LKA being too violent, which doesn’t appear to affect me too much. I know there is a software update to help that, which I don’t have… I generally turn it off, which is easy in R59.

I don't have the LKA issue and I do have the pull down menu with the ELK icon. Does that indicate I am on R59

As for the aircon ⁸I don't think it is acceptable for there to be such a wide discrepancy
The radio issue must be a fault and again I am not accepting that. The speed signs issue is also important
If everyone just accepts the faults surely they won't be fixed

We had a weird one today, the USB music seemed to have the "skip to next" button jammed down, songs just kept changing to next song after playing for a few seconds. Back to normal after shutting down at end of trip and starting of again. I was driving and didn't "play" with it while concentrating on the road.

There is a software fix for the aircon. Have you asked your dealer to install it?
As for the speed sign issue, yes it's a shame they haven't linked it to the satnav but the most reliable system is the Mk 1 eyeball. You can't blame the car indicating the wrong speed if you get caught for speeding.

Whilst I agree with you on that. The car does offer a setting in cruise control to automatically drive up to the speed limit. This function is useless and possibly dangerous when on a motorway and it thinks the speed limit is 30. In mine it doesn't recognise 70 as a speed limit at all and thinks it's 60 on dual carriageways and motorways.

If you disable cruise control you can set a manual speed limit function in its place where you control the current speed limit. This works well.

With all of these systems if you push the accelerator hard, they disengage and let you override.

I know and have used both methods. I tend to rely on my own ability to control my speed with my right foot. But then, I'm an old dinosaur 🦕. I even remember a manual choke, or handbag hanger for the ladies 🤣.
I was just pointing out that they offer a software option that is, at best, flakey.

Agreed it could be better. I was just checking you knew and making others aware.

My 2022 MG4 is great. Everything works more or less as it should. The driver assist is OK if you stop fighting it and accept it will try to kill you every now and then. I don't use the iSmart app or Android Auto, which are useless and awkward respectively.
I'm tempted to put the car in for software updates, but worried that this will introduce a load of new issues. Should I leave well alone or risk it? My infotainment software is version R33 which is well out of date, which implies that the other software is likewise.

Think I can beat you, I remember crank handles and manual advance retard levers.
I'm not that old ... but my Dad told me that when he learned to drive the synchromesh clutch wasn't a thing in most cars that were available then, so you had to double declutch to change gear. :)

My first surfwagon only had 3 gears, with only 2nd and 3rd synchro, so I learnt to double declutch on that.

I had to drive a Ford transit back from Alfreton to Derby with no clutch as the cable had broken. Matching the engine revs with the road speed was interesting but not as interesting as moving off from a standstill by putting it in first and turning it over on the starter motor with a bit of throttle.

It is ultimately your call.

I would say though, we seem to finally have some good stable software versions for both SE and Trophy specs - assuming you get the latest versions. I am guessing you have a Trophy, so you'd want R67. Anything earlier could have annoying bugs.

Edit: It's worth saying this is just the infotainment, there will probably a bunch of other car modules that will need to be updated if your car hasn't had an update for a long time.

Also, bear in mind at least in the UK, software updates aren't free, so the main way if you don't want to pay is to report problems you are experiencing that require updates for the relevant systems.

Thanks. Would an update give me 1 pedal driving like in the 2023 model? It's only software stopping it being so.

No ... us with the early cars (hence earlier software streams) won't get OPD. (I believe that MG have said that the early cars don't have the right hardware to support OPD ... myself and others believe this to be BS; our cars can come to a complete stop when ACC/TJA is being used, so the hardware is fundamentally capable. It's just MG being "cheap" and not wanting to invest in the software development to bring OPD to the early cars).

As it happens I don't care - I've never had OPD so I don't miss it. In fact I like the way the car creeps on "idle" throttle, like an old torque converter automatic would.
