I wish the S5 onboard software (not the mobile phone app)

  • would allow me to use a shortcut key to turn the screen off, and cycle back to home when it's pressed again. Thus giving me a 'screen off/cycle to home on press button'
  • would correct the brightness of the screen without me having to cycle my lights OUT of auto and back on again at night (or set the slider every time)
  • remembered things that are not strictly MG pilot settings, like one pedal drive (OR moved them into the scope of Pilot functions)
  • had the option to remove % as a measure of battery remainder.
  • had the same 3d view some other MGs have where I could scroll around the car (instead of just having top down and 4 locked quadrants)
  • would allow me to set the colour of my car in top down view (and default to my car colour 😆 instead of white)

I'll think of more I'm sure of it 😉 maybe we could get this in front of someone at MG, the same platform is now in use across a range of models, I can see MG harmonising experience across the range in the coming years.

What's your biggest wish/s?

Rewrite of the radio software. I have completely given up on using the radio, as it is junk, but it still comes on when I first get in, playing ghastly rock music.
If I turn the radio off via the right hand toggle on the steering wheel as I get out it stays off when I next start the car. It also remembers the last radio station I was playing.

PS. Nothing wrong with a bit of Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin. Pink Floyd or AC/DC 😁

Ditto here!

But not for me to be listening to those Rock groups!!! 🫢 🫢

one thing that i would like is a "prep car for 7am" so if i have the car plugged into AC charging at home it can warmup/defrost all on the AC so i can leave nice and warm with 100%. That would be nice,..

That's a good one, along slightly similar lines I wish there was more clarity about and how intelligent battery pre heating works, honestly I'm at a bit of a loss as to how it works and what it does.

Batteries are most efficient at 15C to 35C so in colder weather pre-heating the battery makes it more efficient and able to charge quicker. The downside is it uses power to do this and if you are charging at home it makes very little difference to charging speed.

In the UK unless it's near 0C and you need to get the absolute maximum range out of the car and have the car connected to your charger while it does this, or it's near 0C and are travelling over 35 ish miles, or need to save a few minutes at a fast charger leave it off.

Oh, I'll add mine from the other thread, the option to power down the infotainment when the driver's door is opened!

I also think it would be nice to have a few options of how the driver display is arranged/shown - speedo etc - in the last couple of cars I've had there have been options for what you want to see and how you like to see it

Definitely remembering preferred regen and drive settings would be high on the list too.

No problem with the radio here.
My issue is when using navigation on android auto and wanting to change radio station. A pain to get to and and a bigger pain to get back.
And a lock on the Aircon settings.

My little list, I'm sure there is more ;-)

Rewrite radio software, I too have given up using it.
Light and dark mode on both screens (Auto)
Normal cruise control.
Configurable driver display.
Remembering regen, OPD etc.
Battery conditioning, preheating/cooling while using built in navigation for charging stops if needed.

Pressing the 'next' steering wheel button would choose the next favorite radio station, not just the possible radio channel.

Just thought of another thing . Maybe just me . Auto hold doesn't work in reverse . So if I drive into a parking space and take my seatbelt off while still in drive auto hold comes on and the parking brake engages . If I reverse into a space . It doesn't .

Couple more thoughts - the driver drowsiness warning should, I reckon, allow you 1 yawn per 20 minutes.. Surely one occasional yawn is ok without having to get all excited about it?! Mind you, I’ve learnt that I always yawn in the same place on my way home from work!

Another one, would make sense for the auto headlights to come on based on light levels or windscreen wipers, cuz if it’s raining, you probably want the lights on too, no?

I'll add my wishlist:
  • Screen
    • Auto-screen dimming - when lights come on, screen should switch automatically into "dark" mode - my old MG5 did this miles better!
    • Screen Brightness - at night, at lowest settings, it's still way too bright
    • Built-in satnav contrast - too difficult to read at night
  • Radio
    • DAB sensitivity - add an option to turn off DAB -> FM "downgrade", it's too sensitive and switches out of DAB too eagerly and then doesn't switch back as aggressively
    • Randomly turning on the radio when you switch on the car (even if it was muted with the right steering wheel stick before turning off)
    • sort out the delay in sound when using Apple Carplay apps - I noticed this more the other day when my Ring doorbell "rang" the car - it had a pretty unusable delay for conversation (really irked the poor delivery driver!)
  • My MG (<cough> "AI")
    • have it be able to control ALL the car features by voice command e.g. "turn on/off steering wheel heating" - Volvo do this quite successfully with the Google software in their EV cars (which mitigates their almost total dependence on their touchscreen)
  • iSmart App
    • Notifications when car has fully-charged

On a related note, is there any history of this forum and/or mods having any success in raising these sorts of things with MG (UK? Global??) with any positive response or actually getting the software updated as a result?? MG do seem to be a bit aloof.

Has anyone noticed if the new MG4/S6 has more advanced software? Could that be ported to S5 if MG have solved any of these issues??

My single greatest wish!
  • To correct the extremely over-zealous behaviour of the ACC, to reduce the impact on the car's occupants of being thrown forward against the seat belts whenever it "sees" something/anything that it thinks might constitute a hazard, even if said hazard is some considerable distance ahead!

I think it's because it mistakes cars parked on the left* for cars ahead.

I've learned to point the car a little bit away from parked cars and also just to touch the accelerator so that it doesn't do an almighty emergency stop as you're describing.
