Stone stuck between Brake Disc & Brake Disc Cover - VERY LOUD SQUEALING !!

Has anyone had this issue? I did on the rear drivers wheel. OMG the squealing noise was blood curdling, very loud and very embarrassing. Thankfully my husband was driving behind me and we were able to pull over and dislodge it, albeit after 30 mins of driving back & forth and tapping and manipulating the very flimsy brake disc cover. Only driven the car for a couple of hundred miles so far and hoping this is not going to be a common occurrence..

Next? time, if you just keep driving it will soon gets dislodged on its own. (Usually)

I hope so, as I have a chipped driveway and have to drive country roads to get to anywhere sensible..

I had exactly the same problem. Awful noise, was afraid something is broken. Went to a petrol station and hosed it down with a lot of water and pressure.
Right away all good. What a relief that was.
Had that in another car before which has race brakes. Such brakes seems not have space to let dirt easily get out again. Unprofessional wording I know but I am sure you know what I mean.
Sometimes it also helps just to drive in reverse for a couple of metres.

I also had the same issue a couple of times with a Lexus LC500h I owned a few years ago when it eventually ground the stone chip away, but it took 15 miles of driving to do so. I suspected it was the same problem again but now in the Cyberster. It’s sound catastrophic when it happens as it’s like metal to metal grinding. I too thought something had broken. I spent half an hour in the Cyberster in a car park going backwards and forwards quickly to try and free it but it didn’t work. My hubby had to wiggle and tap vigorously the brake disc cover and eventually it dropped out. I also gave it a good hose down when I got home.

Had that issue with off road vehicles, just have to bend the guard out a bit with a stick to let the rock drop out

I had this exact problem driving up the steapest col in the Pyrenees in France recently. It was the rear right disk while driving on the right, so assumed it was wayside grit - but it went on for 30 miles. The passing looks of 'thought electric was supposed to be quiet' told it all. I did immediately stop and tried to clear it by back and forth shuffling, then by waggling the (very flimsy!) plate - all to no avail.

As I still got the odd scraping sound after that, I was worried that perhaps a locating screw or similar had got stuck against the plate, but after driving 800 miles home a few days later without mishap, and with its 1st service due a few weeks later, I took it up with the engineer - who reassured me that all was well. I had also mentioned that the brakes had become very sharp at very low speeds, and he did make the very sensible suggestion (they seem to be one of the 'good guy' authorised MG service only garages) that the brakes were very little worn and I evidently used the KERS a lot (correct!) so he advised every so often turning regen down and using the brakes HARD for a while to clean them up a bit.

We have a gravel drive and this happened to me when I'd had my MG4 for about a week! Horrendous noise and because the car was so new I thought it might be something serious. Called the dealer who diagnosed it straight away and advised reversing on hard lock left and then reversing hard lock right. Did the trick first time.

That certainly makes sense. I did find that the noise changed tone significantly as we drove round the repetitive sharp mountain bends ... albeit forwards!

I think I had this happen yesterday. The noise was so worrying, and I couldn't stop immediately due to traffic. When I did stop, I think the stone must have dislodged itself, as it never happened again. Sounded like it was coming from the OSR wheel.

I had this recently, couldn’t free it the normal way, took the wheel off at home and prised the stone out. I do wonder if they should remove the lip from the guard or something so the stones dont get stuck

I had a Porsche Taycan previously and it did not have any guards front & rear with no issues. Are the guards on the Cyberster / MG4 really necessary?? What would the down side be of having them removed??

I've had this 3 times now - twice on the small lane past our house (where they resurfaced the road and never removed the excess) and once at the beach where the car park had loose stones. They've always dislodged themselves in a few miles, but the sound is horrendous. Thanks for the useful tip on reversing on hard lock - will try that if I get another one. Have taken to driving as slowly as reasonable when I know there's lots of loose grit.

Had this once before on a Volvo estate car, but Cyberster brakes do seem to be very prone to it.

It can often put a nice score in the disc too, especially if it’s a nice hard granite chip or a bit of flint.

Have had this several times also and not even done 500 miles since it was delivered to me on 07 Oct 24. Emailed my dealership a while back to ask if they could speak to MG regarding this and enquire if the guards can be removed, but have heard nothing from them - not amused....

Bought my Cyberster March last year. All good so far, except I've had a stone lodged behind the brake disc shield 3 times in as many months - NSR, OSF, OSF. All acquired on normal road surfaces at low speed ~30mph.
No amount of braking, accelerating, turning or reversing dislodges them. I have to push the shield back so the stone can drop out.
Never had this on any of the other 29 cars I've owned over the years, including Hillman, classic Mini, Ford, Vauxhall, Rover, old MG, Jaguar, Bentley, Tesla, Mercedes, Ferrari and 3 kit cars.

I don't think I had this problem but I had something similar after a day of driving in very heavy rain.

I parked my car and went home, the next morning I started driving and there was LOUD metallic sound almost exactly as if I the support of the muffler had fallen off and I was scratching it in the asphalt, except that couldn't be?

Everybody was looking at me as I drove slowly with my roof down while not having any idea of what's going on.

Turns out the brake pads can get rusty and stuck sometimes, nothing a good ol' stoping on the brakes can't fix, but it's scary until you figure out what's causing it.
