Anyone else got this issue. When you shut the rear tailgate, it looks closed and there are no warnings bing bongs etc to say that it's not fully closed, this is only highlighted when you try to lock the car and the horn sounds. You have to really shut it hard to ensure that it is closed.

Yeah i've had this a few times where the horn sounds and initially i didnt realise it was due to the boot not being closed properly. you do have to push it down harder than expected

Yes, I had the same. It took me ages to figure out that the horn sounding on locking was to tell me something was wrong! My previous vehicle's horn sounded to say it had locked.

It hasn’t done it since I closed it more firmly though.

If you REALLY have to slam it shut, or are opening and closing over and over again, to get it to make the second catch, then I would ask the dealer to move the striker plate out a little.
You can't back it off too much, otherwise the hatch will rattle when travelling over a rough surface.
But there is a sweet spot that works just great.
I have been caught out by the horn sounding once, when trying to lock the car from the fob.
If one of the rear doors have not been closed correctly by my grand daughters, when dropping them off at school etc.
It will also sound the horn once, if you leave the car without powering it down first, then try to lock the doors !.
Ask me how I know :ROFLMAO: .

I was having this problem when I first picked up the new SR Trophy. It was the new fabric handle of the false floor resting on the boot lip and stopping the lid closing fully, put something heavy on it for a few days so now it 'flops' the other way. No problems since! ??

I left my tailgate wide open and drove off, no warnings on the dash or audible warnings. I would have expected the "door open" light to show this when I got in the driver's seat, but it didn't. I was going to ask the dealer if the relevant sensor needs to be fixed but looks like it doesn't need fixing because it doesn't exist. Maybe I should try and lock the car before I drive off in future!

After a few times of it not closing properly I've found that two things happen, 1. there is a tell tail on the display which shows the car with a red line at the rear where the boot is and 2 the cruse control doesn't work.

o.k. so it seems it might be a design limitation. I spoke with another MG ZS driver who confirmed my findings, which are: 1. If the tailgate is closed, but not closed properly, once you start driving (and presumably as you encounter minor bumps in the road) the door ajar symbol displays. Since I am driving I can't look too closely but I don't think the tailgate is highlighted in any way as the point of fault, unlike with the doors. Further as you travel the the alert disappears, then comes on again (I'm guessing due to minor bumps in the road). However, if you leave the tailgate wide open, it would appear that there are no warnings given, unless you try and lock the doors (or per the earlier comment by peterseddon) if you try to use cruise control.
I have booked the car in with the dealer already, but I might call to ask them to research, since I don't want a wasted service visit.
