Taking delivery of car in 2 weeks any tips

ps: the original lights are fine, if ugly.

- LED replacements for the most part are an 'envy' thing (or if you have another car where you have them and 'expect' yours to match) and you are OK with being pulled over and run the risk of the police officer knowing what they are looking for, let alone the MOT/WOF failing if they are found out. Another one is that if your car is 'taken away' to be assessed by insurance in the event of an incident, you can bet your bottom dollar they will focus on this.

LED lamps fitted to non standard LED light units, are a failure under the new current MOT requirements.
Just saying !.
NO - It is not a COULD be situation it IS an MOT failure !.
"Not just saying" - It's a FACT !.

As said ’Just sayin’ yep it’s fact, mot failure!!!!!!!!!!!

But in 3 years time……

also as a side note if the lens is a projector and the led is the same colour as incandescent, the mot inspector is not allowed to take the car apart, how does he know??
they also don’t need washers or auto height (Prius led headlights)
yes it’s against the law, but so is speeding.
surley it’s up to ones own judgement?……..

we had our ZS through last winter, the original lights are woeful, as just about everyone agrees!! so we changed them so we can see better when traveling on unlit country roads, yes there is a risk, but so is walking out of your front door.
I’m not glorifying and I’m not arguing, the op asked a question, I answered and helpfully pointed him to the classified add on this sight.
you pointed out it’s against the LAW and I pointed out the ‘just saying’

so there we are all sorted…………..?

You can tell by how fast they switch on :)

This is correct, although in all honesty I don’t think many MOT stations would bother, unless when checking the beam pattern it is incorrect.
Then they may consider looking a bit harder.
Also, I would strongly consider informing your car insurance company, to avoid any breach of your policy.
The insurance company is likely to consider this as a “Modification” over and above the factory specs of the car.
Similar to having the rear windows of the car tinted.
Perfectly legal, but your insurance company should be notified and have it added as a amendment to your policy.
Does everybody bother, I guess not ?.
I did, but that’s just my OCD I guess !.
If you make modifications to your car without notifying / declaring them to the insurance company, you run the risk of having an insurance claim rejected.
Back to headlights ( yeah - boring I know ) but the MG ZS EV is equipped with standard type long life halogen lamps.
Switching them out for the similar halogen brighter lamp is still retaining the factory “type” of lamp ( not bulb ) but will increase the lighting power.
Personally I would favour this option to eliminate any conflict regarding insurance complications.
“Halogen Night Riders” maybe ???.
Much better than the standard halogen lamps but not as bright as the LED units.
Each to there own on this subject.
Just in passing, I notice that the new ZS EV facelift model has LED lights both front & rear now.
Sounds like MG have been reading the forums and taking note of the issues raised by Gen1 ZS EV owners ?.
