We had ours for 3 months, over 8000kms, and experience all the same niggles. Not sure how long we'll keep it or what would replace it.
That said, I can't find anything else I'd rather own that drives as well, is RWD, similar size, as comfortable, with the same long warranty and at a similar price point.
Absolutely agree with all the annoying gremlins, big BUT though, the S5 is one of the nicest cars to drive, it's very comfortable, giving none of the aches and pains of recent other cars I've owned, like Volvo, Hyundai Tucson, Skoda Superb and Passat, now 3 months in, 2 trips to the main dealer for poor performing ACC, (not fixed) but I've found a way around most of the niggles, like not using the shit auto dipping headlights and reverting to use them in the time honoured fashion of dipping with the steering wheel stalk. and at a bargain basement price of £24 grand.
I'm not convinced there's anything to beat the value for money, plus it goes like furk when you floor the loud pedal.

One thing I would have liked is being able to see the 12v battery condition on the app, it was on my MG4, so why the furk it isn't on the S5, I've just ordered a Bluetooth battery tester, but that's no good for checking when we are on holiday and the car is at an airport car park.

I think its a false narrative to start talking about would you have paid x amount extra for the car to work as advertised :)

I think you sell a car with a number of features for x price and then you expect it to work for the price.

There is a danger I come across as really not liking the MG. I do like it. Its a huge upgrade on what it replaced. But it does have a lot of flaws and poor implementation of features that work fine on my other car. Its been a good start on my EV journey but next time I think I would go for a brand I know and trust more. That will come at a more expensive price point for sure.

I totally agree.
This has been mentioned before, but I can’t understand WHY the S5 does not have a
12 volt battery status report, on the health check included in the App.
The ZS EV had it ???.
It surely must be an oversight, it can’t be that hard to include it surely 🤷🏻.

I'm in the same position, seriously considering trying to hand my vehicle back. My MG journey did not start well, the dealer broke my first one at delivery time with a software update and there were a few paint work issues. I rejected the car and got it replaced with another one, the current 2nd car has got many issues, one being pretty serious intermittent vibration, initially thought it was the tires which were not lined up to spec from factory (dots aligned with valves), this was sorted but issue remains and very worrying. Lots of rattles, some fixed when they had vehicle for tire issues. Some still remain and are driving me nuts. Washer jets, these do not hit the windscreen but squirt onto below the windscreen and the spray from that then goes onto window. Aligned by the dealer but still no where near the screen. Terrible software, door rubbers creaking, one touch windows should be standard in 2025? Auto headlights, DAB Radio reception (or lack of), Android Auto (had to go wired only as was terrible) dropped calls, auto light and dark mode with both screens, phantom braking, lack of just normal bog standard cruise control (not auto), front parking sensors,
The dealer is the worst and i swore i would never use them again after a previous terrible experience with their post sales after care (Arnold Clark) however i knew the sales person and promised everything was very different (lies all lies), they have now had my car 3 times for these and other issues, with the third time kept it for a week and did zero to it during its time there. Anyway, currently looking at my options to hand the vehicle back, seriously wish i had not taken the plunge, it does drive nicely and has good range.

Sounds like there are multiple manufacturing issues with your car mate.
Hope you get them sorted 🤞

I think thats a fair view point. I defrosted the car today (which it does really well to be fair) and I looked at iced wing mirrors and it dawned on me they weren't heated lol. I was gob smacked at the cost cutting lol

I think overall we are disappointed. All its features are poor versions of what we have in our other car which is five years older.

Its a decent entry for our first EV car but we wouldn't keep beyond the current commitment or go for another MG.
On my MGS5 EV 2025 the heated wing mirrors are connected to the rear screen demister control.
One thing that was a revelation to me, was that to get an accurate charge/distance display you need to zero the trip meters?
On the whole, for the price, I quite like the car. Apart from the niggly little things mentioned by others. Some could probably be easily fixed in the next software update?

To be fair resetting the trip doesn't give you an accurate distance estimate, it will very quickly drop at this time of year due to outside temp, heater use journey type

Yeah 2.5mi/kwh to 3.0mi/kwh seems to be average on this car when using heater and depending on how heavy your foot is with the acceleration. (this is based on short 20-30mph journeys - and preheating the cab for 5mins each morning*)

Yes, I understand all that. But prior to resetting the odmeters the 100% charge was only showing a range of 165 miles, which I thought was a bit odd for a three months old car with 1500 miles on the clock. When I reset the odometers the estimated range went up to 209. It doesn’t do that mileage in the winter, but my impression was the battery was deteriorating, which was quite alarming in a car so new.

165miles in Winter depending on how you drive is probably about right.

If you have the Trophy Long Range...
Winter = 160 to 230
Summer = 200 to 270

I'm currently getting 190 - 210miles on mine because of how short my journeys are every day which impacts the performance a lot with the stop start traffic.

Every car that I have ever had, including Audi A8 and Mercedes E500, you activate the heated mirrors by turning on the rear screen heater. The car is incredible value for money and all new cars suffer with various glitches on the assistance items.

So I've had my S5 Trophy Looking Range for three months now. Have to say, I'm pretty disappointed overall.
There's just so many wee niggles. Wee cost saving annoyances. The non automatic window closing for instance. Or the lack of a light on the vanity mirror under the visor.
Then there's the missing things that I'd expect in a modern car. Steering wheel buttons to pick up and hang up the phone. Front parking sensor. Front fog lights. Cornering headlights. And a bloody screen that automatically changes from dark to light when it gets dark outside.
Then most annoying, the things that just don't work well. The phone link that keeps cutting me off. The infotainment system that just doesn't 'flow'. The front collision avoidance system. The auto headlights. The cruise control that randomly slams the brakes on as you're happily tootling along the motorway.
Trying to think of what I like about it. The turning circle is pretty good. It's quite comfy.
I think when I come to change cars again in a couple of years I'll be very wary of getting another MG.
Couldn’t agree more. However the insistent message of ‘please focus on driving’ which ironically distracts me from driving!! Additionally the speed sign recognition that then picks up speed signs on side streets and hence informs me I am speeding!!!! The only bright side of this is it’s just a boing as bitching Betty appears to have disappeared! I test drove a BYD Seal hybrid which had much better’all round’ improvements; the voice control actually does something and you can answer and hang up the phone! Whilst I think the S5 is a reasonable car I feel let down by the avionics- totally let down. I am on the cusp of trading it in for a BYD especially now the road tax makes it an expensive car……
