In a few hours I will go to pick up my 64kWh Trophy Long Range. Changing from a Land Rover Discovery, so a big change for me. My wife already has a Kia EV6 which is a great car to be honest, so I am no stranger to EV driving.

Secondly, is there anything anyone thinks I should ask when I pick it up? Its a 24 plate (8 month old very low milage) but when I compared the price to a new car it was a no brainer.

A no brainer indeed! Welcome for the forum.

I would check the door buttons work as one of ours did not. You can get it fixed under warranty at any MG dealer but would need to get them to order one in and paint it.

Having the car bound to a previous owner/user is less of an issue but if they can unbind it in advance that would be handy.

Have you arranged what cables you will get with it? If you've already got an EV maybe this is less of an issue.

Hopefully you will have no issues and many years of happy driving!

Thanks for the advice, I didn't think about the door buttons, I will make sure. As far as I am aware It comes with the cables, but I will check. I have a wired home charger already in place anyway so will have time to get one on order if not

Make sure they have done all of the software updates and the car is on the MG database so the warranty and breakdown cover is valid.

Just take it home and drive it, you still have a few years warranty left to get any niggles sorted out.

For me, if buying 2nd hand, I'd be checking the following on my test drive if possible, before paying. I'm sure there may be a few more things I've read a few times on here too . Personally I've not had an issue with any, so don't worry !

• it charges on both AC and DC for a reasonable time
• No damage underneath to the battery area
• all electrics are working - windows, doors, keyless buttons, 360 cameras,
• Two working keys present (with their physical emergency keys inside)
• Undertray bulge is not present or minimal.
• Underbonnet soundproofing is present
• AC is working and not too loud
• The whole rear light tray is free of cracks and there is no bad condensation present

As said the car is under warranty, but depending on your local MG dealer, warranty work can take quite a while (even to book in) and then some warranty work may need authorising by MG UK which has led to some negaivity towards MG UK customer service overall IMHO. For that reason I would personally check as many things as possible before final purchase so that in the unlikely event of anything needing attention you are likely to get it done a lot quicker !!.

Hi guys, thank you for the advice, I now have it on my drive, and I am pleased to say all appears to be OK. Taking it for a longer drive tonight as the MG dealer is only round the corner, so will know a little more after.

That's a great guide @Grriff, you did it before I joined here, so I'm just seeing it for the first time.

If the car drives well and shows no issues, avoid having software updates. Don't chase 'higher' software release numbers just for the sake if having the highest 'number'. Should you have an issue later, just go to the dealer and see if it can be resolved with a software update or other fix.

Fully agree, this is a broader computing principle - if it's working, don't faff around with it. If the latest update promises to wash whiter than white and make you tea & toast, check whether a) you actually want what it's offering and b) whether it might remove/overwrite/restrict something that you really want/need.

I totally agree, updating for the sake of it just gets you out of the frying pan into the fire. In some cases the newer updates just brought new problems with them, the latest is not always the best.

There is always a balance when upgrading software. If you feel running the software that does the job is the right thing then you will be ok with Windows 3.1 or Mac OS9 as for most daily tasks these will do the job. However, there are things including behind the scenes security and bug fixes that may not be obvious in more recent versions. In most cases if you are running a version of software with a known issue then updating to the version with the fix is probably the most pragmatic approach.

So far I have kept on the software versions that came with my car (in Oct 2023) because I've got used to the various "special features" the car exhibits. Now though the positive reports of various updates (especially SC077) mean I will probably push for more updates to be done on the next service.
