Top Gear claims cant preheat cabin

  • The right-hand screen is useless
I'd agree with that. I just tap once in a while to see the miles/kWh

  • ‘since last charge’ trip only resets after a public rapid charge
No idea, not sure I've looked for that. Is that the next menu after today's driving stats? I noticed it resets after 100hrs. I have charged at a public rapid charger in the past, but it didn't reset then.

  • centre console screen on the ‘MG Pilot’ display so I’ve got quick access to deactivating the annoyingly overactive lane-keep assist and speed warning beeps
Isn't this an EU regulation?

  • The app allows real-time battery heating, but no option to pre-condition the cabin in a chilly morning. It also promises to remotely start and stop charging, but I’ve given it a go and it didn’t work. So I had to manually override it using my charger’s native app.
Now, this one is a user issue. Pre-condition works as otherwise we're stuck trying to get into the car on those winter mornings. Guessing the author hasn't had the car long enough... Remote start & stop charging, works fine for me. I use this to ensure that I'm not drawing from the batteries that are charged up by the grid/solar. I've never needed to use the charger's native app, but then I guess it depends which Energy Provider & Charger each person has. I have a Hypervolt, but that's set to Octopus mode, so the Octopus app does all the cheap hour scheduling.

I don't understand the hate from that review. Maybe they don't know that they should use a wireless dongle to have wireless Android Auto or Apple Carplay and use the navigation from A Better Routeplanner? Yes, the app could be better. But who cares. It's a fantastic car! The first convertible electric car, and with a hughe wow factor. Only happy faces when I drive it. And guilt-free about our atmosphere.

I find it amusing but not surprising that motoring journalists have decided that they will only be dragged kicking and screaming into the EV world. Starting the article with the negative comments about cars made in China set the tone, and shows how unbalanced the article is going to be. Due to the brainwashing of Motor Journalist that only a BMW is a drivers car, they instinctively feel that they have to find fault with any loaner that doesn't have the coveted BMW badge. I spent a lot of time in Germany from the sixties to the nineties and found the journos there much more balanced in their car test reporting and BMW was only regarded in the same category as Opel (Vauxhall over here), Ford, VW or Audi. BMW did a master PR job of convincing UK Motor Journos' that driving a BMW marked them out as a cut above the average driver.
If you set out to rubbish something it is easy to do. As a new owner of a Cyberster Trophy (and previous owner of 80 other cars), none were perfect, but none were as captivating to look at and satisfying to drive as the Cyberster. I would be more interested to hear what they had to say if they had spent their own money on it as we have.
Even so, clearly not done their homework, as the app does indeed let you precondition the cabin and put the electric seats on. Sure the Tesla App is probably the best out there, but the Tesla car has many faults/quirks which irritate the heck out of me, so I will forgive the Cyberster for its faults, most of which are related to the poorly implemented (not limited to MG) technology that NCAP are foisting on us all, as I enjoy the drive with the roof down, smiling as I hit the SuperSport button to sprint past slow moving traffic, and journos in their coveted loaner BMW's.

Yeah, and the car isn't only superfast at the green light, but when you stop to let someone pass or cross the street, they look grateful, not only for stopping for them, but also because such a magnificent car stopped for them. Makes me drive more gentlemen-like too :)

Lol reminds me of the sports car forums and the typical anti ev closed mindedness. No one cares if they dont like it or decide its not for them tbh. Each to their own. Obviously there are criticisms and it's not good to be in an echo chamber. But some of these journos can take 2 minutes to read forums and find out how things work. Maybe download a manual or something. Lol.

Like how irritating it was you had Nissan organizing open days for stupid youtubers, who dont do any basic research and just spout nonsense. Journos shouldn't necessarily be listened to reading off hymn sheets after a quick rag around the block. Owners reviews are a lot more valuable. But where thats lacking on the Cyberster in a media format ie Youtube, journos are the go to unfortunately for most people 😂
