A day trip to Whitby with the family from West Yorkshire in my MG ZS EV Long Range Trophy Connect was not something I was able to do in my ZS EV MKI (which my wife now has) so todays journey was a relaxing one knowing I didn't need to worry about stopping to charge en route. At a 100% SoC the battery was offering 268 miles in Normal mode and 275 miles in Eco mode as it was 17c outside so the 196 mile round trip journey was going to be a piece of cake. The outbound 96.8 mile journey took 2hrs 17mins with 2 adults/son and dog and the car achieved 4.0 mls/kWh leaving me with 189 miles range / 68% SoC (the app range defaults to 'normal' mode so this shows 181 miles). Before setting off on our walk back up the Abbey steps to the carpark I started the HVAC remotely via the app to cool the cabin so the new range was now 180 in Eco. I left HVAC on for the journey and on arriving home after our 96.5 mile / 2hr 25mins drive we landed with 27% SoC / 68 miles of range remaining at 3.6 mls/kWh (which is now my accumulative mls/kWh since owning the car from 24th May). Using the above estimated mileage and sticking to 65 mph on dual carriageways means that 96.8 mls (out) + 96.5 mls (rtn) = 193.3mls + 68 mls (remaining range) = 261.3 mls total estimated range of the 68.2kWh usable battery over relatively hilly terrain. Great car and great to be able to drive past the rapid chargers straight back home:) If you're still waiting, I hope you get your new MG ZS EV facelift soon! — at Whitby Abbey

Good that on your daytrip you could avoid the "mk2 rapid charge lottery" 👍
AK OK not sure what you're referring to as is MK2 rapid charge lottery but I have had my car updated in the PDI pre collection checks and all software updates are applied so not to affect any issues when connect to a rapid charger. If you meant something else then please let me know.

I hope you are correct, quite how are mk1 or mk2 drivers supposed to know if their cars are susceptible to issues? only MG might know 🤷‍♂️

I don't have a cut & paste list of mk2 rapid charging issues but if you have a read on this very forum you can't get very far without finding them...

How do you get the info on screen as per bottom picture thanks

There is no rapid charge lottery with the MG ZS EV as long as your dealer has done their job of pre car collection pdi checks to ensure your new EV has all of the latest BMS and ECU updates released mid-May 22.

This rapid charging issues are all issues in early collected cars (pre May) there has been a dealer bulletin release mid May to instruct dealers to apply BMS/ECU software update to fix known rapid charge issues. MG are paying MG dealers their time to apply software updates and fix early delivery models and going forward PDI checks of models collected May onwards will leave the dealer with no rapid charge issues like my car has

🤞

Contact your dealer and ask them to apply service bulletin AS-22-025
Updates to
• VCU
• EV
• CCU
• BMS
• TC
To fix dc changing issues especially if you got your car b4 may 22

Thanks for this info, in my daughters case this was already done after being immobilised just 3 weeks after collecting vehicle. Should it keep happening despite the dealer do the update? Doesn't feel one with confidence to continue to drive the car. Appreciate your help

Not rushing out to get the update as the rapid charging issue still does not appear to be resolved from above comments.

Just watched the detailed explanation from Miles on the MG podcast. The bulletin to dealers is essentially an instruction to proceed with carrying out software updates to key components for all MG EVs when servicing.

On my first Rapid charge mine (ZSEV Trophy LR) got bricked, but since the software update its been absolutely fine, done several Rapids since. As opposed to the Mk1 where you should switch OFF the car before stopping the charge, in my new Mk2 I always use the cars in built functionality to stop the charge via the infotainment screen, and that requires the car to be fully ON to get to that screen. Using the cars own functionality ensures the car is in control of the shut down process, not the charger, this works fine every time for me.
