I'm a long way off needing new tyres for my ER/LR Trophy/Essence... though I do find the car with the Turanza T005 OEM tyres has little give even on gravel or any kind of rough road. Wondering if 225/50 R18 size in the future with a comfort tyre would provide a sweet spot for Performance slightly more comfort. Whats peoples thoughts?

I recently needed to replace my Turanzas and eventually found a good deal for Pirelli Cinturato P7s in the right size 235/45R18 and after some mucking around with tyre pressure am absolutely delighted.

Much better road handling and comfort with almost identical energy efficiency.

I'll find the link to my previous posts in another thread.

I've got an Essence 64 and I'm not a fan of the Turanza. To be fair I've never liked Turanza, they don't suit my driving style, especially when they get wet. I'm booked in for some new rims and tyres this Wednesday, I'm replacing the rims so I can go to a 245/40R19. The main reasons are I like a wider tyre, and in this size I can get some run flat tyres, so I don't have to worry about not carrying a spare with me.

Going from a 235/45R18 to a 225/50R18 will give you a smaller contact patch, which might be worth considering in relation to the extra torque your 77 produces. The change in overall diameter is negligible, and will make your car ever so slightly underread the speed you're doing. (Although there is some question about whether the car corrects this using GPS data).

One other thing to be mindful of with the 225/50R18, is that some tyres come with a load rating of 95, and some with 99. You need at least 98 as a load rating for your car.

There's a bunch of comments from then on.

In short, around 44psi and I get just as good energy efficiency both around town and long distance highway speeds and a far better ride.
