UK debut for MG4 Urban

You have some really weird problems in your country! :ROFLMAO:
Some people count windmills or play spot the windmill with the kids, the last trip across to WA and back, Margaret started counting dead roos per km, she gave up when the tally passed 30, the trucks really mess them up, the camels really mess the trucks up, I'd hate to meet one of those out on the road in the dark of night, even in the Winnie, in a converted mini bus or campervan, you wouldn't stand a chance, so you get off the road as dusk settles in, or follow a big truck and hope he doesn't meet a camel unexpectedly .... the roos generally bounce off the bull bars on the big triple and quad trailer trucks because, by law, their bull bar must be close enough to the ground that they can't run over a car ...... so the roo doesn't do the rolly polly under the truck and suddenly appear right in front of you, at over 100km/h no hope of avoiding them then ......

Wild goats are another interesting problem driving a car, not an issue for the trucks, but in the East Coast highlands on the less frequently used roads, the feral deer can see the end of life for a car or small truck .....

You can see why everything is out to kill you over here, they are just fighting back

They've misunderstood the fact that the MG4 EV Urban is replacing the standard range MG4 EV, so they think the base price has gone up when actually it has come down and the new Urban starts lower than the old standard range.

All the details to come in our podcast, hopefully will be available today.

According to those prices, they've dropped quite a bit. Not gone up 3 grand.
What are they on about?
🤷‍♂️
In fairness they are correct, the article refers to the original MG4, which has been updated and does start at a higher price now!

As for the Urban model starting at £23.5k. Rather than a bargain, this is outrageously expensive for a car they can retail starting at £8k in China! Even with shipping, duties, & a larger profit, it should be starting in the region of £16k over here. Maybe in a few months with some decent discounting, it will end up sub £20k here at least.

My concern is how much it's been built down to a budget to be able to come in at such a low price, even in China, £8k equivalent is a really low cost car!

I can't imagine the numbers of lefthand drive and righthand drive balance, so the righthand drive model has to pay a premium ... plus, the Chinese domestic market unit is fighting to get sales up, so they maybe selling them at a loss, using the export market to prop up the losses ....

No, the article is grossly misleading.

You are being unrealistic about the costs and duties of getting cars to the UK. You cannot simply point at Chinese prices and say ours should be similar or twice, it does not work like that.

There will be discounts, that seems certain and yes, the range may well start from just under £20k in practice. But it isn't going to be £16k, that's unrealistic. There will not be £8-10k discounts on these models.

My understanding is this is good-quality vehicle designed to compete with the best of the European and Korean competition. Obviously at this end of the market all makers have to find ways of reducing costs, so you won't get tons of equipment or the very best materials and a bargain price.

But be reassured this is nothing like a Dacia: it is a proper car designed to compete with the Renault 4, Kia EV3 etc...

For anyone concerned with safety, the MG4 EV Urban has a high 5 star rating, EuroNCAP have already released their test information to the public:

Now you are making the assumption that the £8k China version is exactly the same as the export version. Wouldn't be surprised that the China version is different (maybe less safety features, different materials etc.) compared to the export version.
