UK debut for MG4 Urban

Nope, but it can go on the list for consideration in a couple of years as a used car for £10k or so as our second runabout. :)
Aren't they FWD nor RWD? Are they actually going to release an XPower version .... They could release it is black with either cow hide trim or blonde swede leather and call it the Keith Urban .... the Nicole Kidman co pilot option is no longer available, but there are other options that may come available at a later date :D

The MG4 EV Urban (official name) is FWD.
The new MG4 EV continues with RWD.

Hmm dont like the look of that, and no rear wheel drive anymore. Also filled the centre with a console so no "open" feel in the front. Also downgrade in suspension and handling. Ill just keep the old one

Sorry to differ but I prefer the existing shape, at least it's different from all the rest around these days which all look like variations of golfs and polos. I agree that the name is a bad choice but the cheaper version of the car is a good move. Strange that they don't offer the solid state battery in the UK

Not sure about the roof, the 5 had a sunroof in other markets, but we never got the option here. Also, as it costs a lot less than the other 4 here, there is incentive to not give too many options to make it "too nice", or it could curtail sales of the other model.

Really nice to see more conventional "Golf" sized/shaped hatchbacks coming to market, rather than yet another SUV too. :)
If you compare to real new prices of old MG4 here the urban is dearer - until they start knocking 30% off. New old MG4 EV SE £17,500 odd offers all the time somewhere for the last 18 months.

That would be because there isn't any yet  If they could package all the torque that's been doing the rounds lately, they wouldn't need the reduction drive
They mentioned a "semi solid state battery" which isn't a solid state battery at all ... Maybe they are trying line up a supply from Krispy Kreme for donut batteries ....

There are two different cars on two different platforms:
  • MG4 EV Urban: FWD focusing on low price, space and practicality (577L boot!).
  • MG4 EV: RWD for driving experience and performance, all the same models available except the SR shorter range variants which are replaced by the Urban. This has the new interior upgrade but is otherwise the same as before.

So you haven't lost anything unless you wanted to buy a SR MG4, where now you can choose from 3 different Urban models. And ALL models are cheaper.

The MG4 we are used to isn't continuing in China (its sales were really poor), so they need an Urban with much longer range to cover the whole market.

If we had it, it would overlap with the new MG4 models and be quite confusing. Also, their production of solid state may take time to ramp and be limited to "home" markets for quite a while.

I don't know if the solid state battery is designed for the MG4 chassis, either, might only go in the Urban, so we may not get it until the car is fully replaced in 3 years time.

I actually wish more cars were golf & Polo shaped! VW pretty much nailed the style 50 years back. The vast majority of everything today is tall SUV styled blobs.
