Unexpected hard emergency brake

Had a strange one today, as I was pulling into Villa park car park today after being flashed in by a car coming in the other direction, I started to turn into the entrance and my car slammed on the brakes for no reason. I shit myself, reset and carried on. Has anyone else had this. It wasn’t just unexpected it was dangerous.!!

False positives with Automatic Emergency Braking are fairly common. You can change the sensitivity to Low and you can switch off the ability for the car to apply the brakes - which is what I do - so you still get a warning but you decide how to handle it.

Software updates may improve it, reducing false positives.

There are several threads about this. Some people seem to get this relatively frequently, others almost never. I still think it's something to do with calibration, perhaps of cameras.

Turn off ACC which seems to turn off radar and prevent these dangerous emergency stops. Haven't had one for 18 months now. I only turn on ACC now when I'll need it, such as long motorway journeys in quiet traffic, which is rare. I've previously posted dashcam footage of bad stop I had when my speed was 15mph and a car passing in opposing lane activated the emergency stop, even though we were both well away from each other in middle of lanes, all be it turning a slight bend. I sent footage to MG UK who wrote back confirming the opposing car caused incident, even though there was no imminent collision and both my car and the other car were being driven in the normal expected safe manner!!! I've kept their reply in case I should need it in the future.

Although I always try to reverse into a car park Space, when I need easy access to the boot on have had drive into the space to park, I have had several emergency stops when reversing back out of the space, but so far every one justified by a subsequent approaching car or pedestrian. I will agree though that it's very disconcerting/neck wrenching, especially when only going slow. Never had it with someone/car approaching the front.

As I never tire of pointing out in these posts, these cars do this because the software (computer) and hardware (cameras and sensors) have been built and programmed by idiots. I had the brakes slammed on for no reason driving at 30mph along a straight road at dusk with no other car or obstacle in sight. There was a car behind me which narrowly avoided crashing into my rear end. He must have thought I was drunk or crazy or both. I have the same opinion of the clueless clots that programmed the ELK and other crap that controls the car in such a random and dangerous fashion.
Don't hold your breath for any help from MG Motors Limited or their dealers. Software upgrades produce a slight improvement but the car is really only safely driveable with as much of the computer-controlled crap turned off. Sadly, this also disables the cruise control function

Seeing me bearing down on him, he thought better of it, and turned away. I spotted this, but a second later, the car decided that I was such a clot not to brake hard, it did it for me . Yes, I've had exactly that same situation as my only hard emergency break. This bloke in high-vis gear ran across the opposite lane, before hesitating on the median strip* as I was approaching. Before I could make my mind up on whether to break, the car made it up for me.

Maybe we encountered the same character?

* In Australia, a concrete divider between two lanes heading in opposite directions, usually wide enough for a pedestrian to pause.

I also had an emergency brake incident this morning. Fortunately there was no one close behind. And I couldn't see any reason why it did that. Shakes your confidence in the car.

You can use ACC with the AEB (automatic emergency braking) turned to ALERT only, so it cannot apply the brakes. This is what I do.

Just one button is all we need. Just one button that turns all the crap computer controls OFF and just leaves the rear camera and cruise control working. Ever heard the phrase "take back control?"
