Unexpected things you buy when you get a new car

We all buy things like car mats and mud flaps for our new cars but some things you don't expect to buy. In my case it was a caravan step so I could wash the roof of my MGS5 EV without getting a wet front I've never had an SUV before.

I've it necessary to use a stool for washing the car roof for many years now so it's not a recent thing.

All cars have become so much bigger since I started driving nearly 50 years ago, I can only just reach the middle of the MG4 roof to wash it, but when I polish the roof, I need to stand on a step to be able to do it properly.

I like the idea but you can't, or should I say shouldn't, sit on a mop-on-a-stick to wash the wheels whereas it's more comfy to sit on the step

Indeed - still doesn't stop you getting wet though if you lean against the car, as you've almost certainly hosed down the car first.

I have to use a step ladder to wash the roof of my Land Rover. Single step stool works for the rest of the family's cars.

That wouldn't make any difference, if you're a short arse still wouldn't reach the middle

Wash the roof ? That’s a novelty

I've got one of these too - brilliant for roof box access but probably not ideal for washing the roof as it requires the door to stay open. I mean, it might not get wet inside the car but, well, it might...

I tried one of those @Archev, but I 'upgraded' to the adjustable version, beware of the adjustable one though, the rubber pad is a bit small, making it feel unstable. I've modified mine with a bigger pad (I'll take some pics when it gets light).

Nor in mine but who said they were using a hosepipe to wash the car? You can still use buckets of water
