Using Zap Map And Zap Pay For The First Time

I am off to Bangor, Wales. Couple of hundred miles. Should in theory be doable, but don't want any squeaky bum time!

The hotel we're stopping at does not have a charging point.

Find it hard to rely on apps to tell me which chargers are in service.

But I have Electroverse and Zap Map apps on my phone.

I suppose my question is, how do I set up Zap Map with debit card details ahead of using the app, so that I can just tap and pay?

Is there a Tesla supercharger nearby? If so, you might be better off setting that up instead.

We stopped at a service area on the North Wales Expressway and took the plunge with our first 50kW charger.

Was pleasantly surprised how straight forward it was. Parked up, plugged in, flashed our Electroverse card and around 35mins later we had gone from 63% to 95%.

Cost £13.79. Still trying to work out cost per mile and miles per percentage point.

This fast charger experience contrasts with the hotel's charger....

It was dark when we parked up and we had to use one mobile as a torch to read the instructions, while using the other to download the app, register, enter card details........

Luckily, it wasn't tipping it down, otherwise that would have been the icing on the cake.

The hotel car charge cost £13.28 to top up from 74 to 100%.

24.6kWh.

So, public chargers seem much more expensive than our home charger, which I expected. I just wasn't sure how much more it would be.

I need to work out what a full charge would cost at 7.5p on the home charger.

100% charge from 0% = 61.7kWh

61.7 x £0.075 = £4.63 (rounded up)

Charge efficiency estimated at 88% for a 7kW wall box means actual usage would be 61.7 / 0.88 = 70.11kWh, so a cost of £5.26 (rounded up)
