MG5
Hi all, iv just purchased my first EV, a MG5 LR from a local auction in haste as my currant car (Honda crv) failed its MOT and was bound for the scrap yard. anyway the care was registered in December 2022 making it 2.5 years old. Its has only had 1 service a few weeks ago and the car has only done 9200 miles but the warranty is void as its missed a service, is there anything i can do to validate the warranty? or purchase one? there is nothing wrong with the car, Id just like a bit of reassurance and protection if not i might just sell it on or PX it as i can be doing with the extra worry the battery might die on me. i emailed my local dealer but they where about as useful as a chocolate fire guard.

Hi and welcome to the forum,
The 7 year warranty only cover the HV stuff for 7 years most other items are 3 years or less.
You could take it to a MG another dealer and ask them if you get them to do a service they will reinstate the warranty, no harm in trying.

Annoying when owners are so negligent that they void the warranty.

No idea if you can get it reinstated. Was the service two weeks ago done at an MG dealership (or approved garage)?

Overall it seems that the batteries on MG5 cars are holding up extremely well, so if you got a bargain then why not stick with it?

Someone was offering a replacement battery on here for a reasonable amount (£1,500 if I remember correctly), so the worst case scenario is that you'd have to replace it for a few grand.

yes i think i did get it for a bit of a bargain, in the end with commission i paid £9200. the service done by MG and the seller in the action was MG as well. apparently it was a pool car with MG. if the cost is only £1500 or so for a new battery ill probably keep it. though it would cost £6k plus.

If it was all with MG who said that the warranty was void?
Was the milage 9200 the same as the price £9200?
The car is 2.5 years old but the first service was done a few weeks ago, so it's missed the time deadline by some margin, placing it out of warranty.

Sorry to ask again, but just to repeat @Jomarkh question, who said it was out of warranty, or are you just assuming ? Quite often having that service puts it back in the loop as it were.

One way to check is to see if it has MG Assistance AA cover is by phoning the AA and quoting your registration to see if has cover.

MG said it was out of warranty as it missed a service. has to be with in the 12 month period or 15k miles. yes price was £9200 and milage was 9170 when i picked it up.

Im not 100% sure i think it was a dealer, but until I get the V5 back I can't say for sure. No there was no mention of it being out of warranty but it did say it had only had 1 service.

If it specifically mentioned ‘only one service’ then MG will claim that ‘one should have known’ that this 2.5 year old car is no longer covered by MG warranty.

I doubt that MG UK or any MG dealer will be capable (or willing) to re-instate the warranty given their after sale service’s reputation, but try anyway…
