Software is the only thing I can think of.

Most of us are on the stock R31 version, there is an updated R34 version which gives some nice shortcuts for disabling the safety sounds and apparently does a little update for the speakers.

The ONLY thing I’d say is a must is getting confirmation that the car has had its 1st service and that was registered with MG. You can check yourself if you get the VIN but without it, all of the warranty can be void so it’s a must.

A few simple things. I won't repeat what has been said already.

Any squeaks / noises with the top down. If you are alone in the car, fasten the passenger seatbelt (it can knock against the side). Mine is silent like this. Listen for creaks / groans - not motor whine.

With the roof up, all soft tops have a little creaking of the roof. If it is loud / grindy, that is not good.

Look for uneven tyre wear. If the surface is pretty uniform, that is a good sign. Extra outside wear, especially at the front indicates the previous owner drove " enthusiastically"

I'd suggest checking software is at least R34. That gave the option on swipe down to turn off all the bongs and beeps in one go. Not sure if there's an R35 (outside Asia) at the moment. No OTA.

Things which have bugged me over winter include:-
  • Frosty/cold days cause misting on the windows. Demisters clear the windscreen but there's residual condensation in front of the camera behind the rear view mirror. That means the car "can't see" and turns off ACC/Speed Sign/Lane Keeping/....
  • Reverse light is not the brightest, and if it gets dirty then reversing is "interesting"
  • Same for the reverse camera - picks up muck from country roads really easily
(to be fair, all 3 of these are not a Cyberster only issue!)
I could also clean it more frequently!

On dealers, I'm with Rawlinsons (Bury St Edmunds) and have no issue with them so far. Can't comment on other dealers. Remember not every UK MG dealership does Cybersters.

I'm also in the "love it" camp. For touring, we managed 5 days round europe with 2 people (and luggage) and still had room for 12 bottles of champagne from Calais on the way back. Soft bags are better than hard shell cases.

On range estimates/journey planning, it's a matter of personal preference. I use Apple carplay apps (not the built-in Nav). Carplay is not wireless - I use a short cable, others have used a wireless dongle with some success. Waze is my go-to as it is better at re-routing on traffic, alerts (although I am now fed up with pot-hole alerts) and general planning. Not good (yet) at charge stop planning, or I've not used it properly. I recently added a VGate vLinker MC+ ODB box and ABRP as the app - other than the ODB not working completely with the Cyberster profile, that is better for long-haul drives with charge planning, exact battery feedback from the car and state of target chargers. If only it had Waze's strong points as well....

Test drive it - and you're doing the right thing of going in "eyes open". I hope you like it and join the club!

😎

Went for test drive. Salesman had told me he was new to dealership and not greatly familiar with Cyberster, which was fine (given I was well briefed from forum, thanks all). In fact he knew everything I needed to know … except how to turn off fake engine noise. Actually, having driven only silent EVs for 10 years, I liked it (that will probably wear off …). In comfort mode at 50 MPH and pushing red button both the change in fake engine noise tone and the performance were impressive, and testing the bite around a tight roundabout gave confidence

What’s not to like 🙂

Loved it. Bought it - as expected. Picking up probably next weekend

Thanks for all your input. More questions to follow I expect

Hi,

I'm thinking of getting a 2nd hand GT as a "high days and holidays" car, and definitely for touring rather than as a sports-car.

I would appreciate your help in learning about anything that I am likely to find annoying such that I should definitely pay attention to it on the test drive.

I've been driving Tesla since 2015 (Model-S performance, then replaced 2nd backup-ICE with Model-3 then Model-Y)

I've spoken to a number of people who have Cybersters and they absolutely love them.

The things I have read of include:

Lots of bongs, and fairly tedious to turn them off at the start of each trip. I'm doubting that will bother me ... but.

Doors - slow to open, not great when it is raining, possibly if wipers are left on they may auto-start before doors are closed and sweep water "inside". Not sure that would bother me either (and presumably something I could mitigate)

Problems if the car sits unused for prolonged period - eg 12 volt battery

I like Tesla's eco-system, but I am not looking to reproduce that.

But that said, is there anything that might annoy me? I've read that the distribution of info around the various screens is a bit haphazard. I am assuming I will get used to that, and that it won't especially bother me either. Any maybe OTA update has/will? improve that.

Have issues actually been solved by an over-the-air update during your ownership, or is the promise not as good as the execution?

Is there anything / improvement I would miss out on if I get a 2024 car compared to a 25 / 75 plate?

I have a search running on AutoTrader, are there other places I should be looking?

Any things I should look out for when viewing a 2nd hand vehicle (I'm likely to be buying from a dealer)

Are there any other questions I should have asked?

Thanks :)
Cant give you any details on the car, but my local dealer Eric Steads in sheffield has a very low milage model available. - Plus they are one of the best MG dealers with great customer reviews
