What Was Your CB Radio "Handle"?

OMG... am I so nerdy that only now, 43 years later, I'm wondering if they were actually having a laugh with me  (but I'm not going to look up squelch knob on urban dictionary 🫣)
I can’t get the Queen’s Squelchy Melchy from Blacksdder out of my underutilised cranium now 🙄

I deeply resented using the Americanisms on the radio. However, it proved mighty useful when driving in convoy on longs trips, especially to Spain and France; no mobile phones in those days. Still use PMR446 equipment from time to time, which is much more convenient. I used to have Midland gear

The CB is still a must in a heavy vehicle or pulling a caravan in Australia, we have really big trucks that we need to coordinate with if we want to either pass them, or for them to pass us ..... plus they fill you in on anything coming up you might need to contend with .... included where to turn to get around a serious road closure accident.

Back in my courier days, I was car 54 .... that'll test the memory , on the radio, I'm still T1 ..... don't talk on it much, but keep my ear on ....... when the "B" thing wants to work that is ...... turn it right down in any major built up area, too many "wanna bees" swearing their heads off trying to sound big ...... don't need that .....
I've burnt the high gain aerial more than once when switching the big boots on to push out over the local chatter when needed ........

Herbie the VW was number 53... so you were one better?

I was Blue Max mainly because I had a blue Austin Maxi and not much imagination.

I seem to remember I had a Motorola which was on offer from Euro Car Parts at the time. I changed cars and hadn't got round to fitting it to the new car when the next thing I know my ex sold it to someone where she worked. Notice I say ex....

Well, I am now  It was back in Black and White days on Aust afternoon/evening television .........

Nope missed that one. I thought we had a reasonable signal too 🤪. Andy Pandy and Muffin the Mule were fine, if a little grainy on our 200 mm screen that we couldn’t have had as it was way before decimalisation.

Another blast from the past. I used to work at Tandy Corporation, (the English name for Radio Shack) and we sold CB's among other things electronic. So long ago now I have forgotten the brands.

We had a Tandy in Bury ,which I used to frequent as a teenager thinking what could I do with all those circuit boards , transistors and resistors. I usually left with a couple of batteries . 🤷‍♂️

Maybe we should turn this thread into "reminiscing for old people"... you bring back memories for me too as a young teenager (maybe a bit before that) with my first electronics kit from Tandy - like this one...

You must have been one of the spoilt kids, we didn't get anything like that, bought a heap of project board, used a blade in the scalpel holder thing to cut the copper away to form a circuit, soldered wires and components and bit of legs we cut off components ..... and more often than not, a second trip to get more components because we damaged those ones .... or cut the legs too short  and thought we'd conquered the world when we got scratchy sound out of our crystal wireless set that took near a weeks worth of milk run money earning to build .....

The first time I got a series of lights to flash in a repeatable pattern, I thought nothing could stop me ....... started an Advanced diploma in electronics and computing at around 45 yrs old, thinking I'd smash the electrical and electronics part ...... and I did for the first hr before a coffee break, back in class and it was like I'd walked into the advanced senior class .... right after he said, now we are all up to the basic speed level .... the majority of the class said "thank god for that, I was going to sleep" and from that point on, I knew I was in trouble :LOL:

Then I started the maths and computing section o_O when did they start teaching this sh*tte in school, I was over my head in the 1st introduction hr ....

LOL - that was just the start of an interest in electronics... oh believe me, I've done it all - re-using components from radios and old pixie tube calculators, etching blank pcb's with ferric chloride and (much to the annoyance of my dad) breaking numerous 1mm drill bits when drilling out those hand-made pcb's! those were the days :)
