Where would you have an MOT?

Not really.
I think it was the first MG4 he'd tested so he was a little interested, but not to the point of wanting one!

Locally I was the only owner of an MG until a year or so ago, so I doubt they have tested many others (if any). So, I guess the novelty factor kicked in!

Think I'll just take my X Power to MG Chorley, where I purchased it from.
(Presuming I've still got it)
Yep, there are much closer MOT stations,
but it's a nice ride out, there's a Maccies within walking distance, so have a Maccies, do me Crossword, then a nice stroll back, job done. Plus I'm in no hurry, whatsoever.
🙂👍

Take something for a test drive when you're there

I have chosen not to let main dealers conduct the MOT’s of any of my cars over the last 15 years+.
Even if they are sometimes offered for free !.
You get nothing for free in this world really, so I have experience of having good reasons why, I don’t take up their kind ( so called ) free offer of MOT’s.
I purposely use a MOT station that does not offer any type of repair facilities.
I think you get my drift.

I'll just have to hope, all main dealers are not the same. One bad un, doesn't mean they all are. 🙂👍

“Free” health and MOT checks fall into the same category as when a lot of garages use to offer “Free” fitting on exhaust systems.
It was never free, it’s because the profit margin on exhaust systems were that massive, it was built into the price.
A “Free” health checks only takes 15 minutes, but it’s time well spent if they pick up on items that bring in extra revenue.
It’s not just the odd one, they all do it now.
Even the true shops are at it !.
I was unfortunate to have a puncture about 3 weeks ago.
I went to the tyre shop I have used for the last 40+ years, it was a family run concern, but has been taken over by one of the large companies.
Normally, I would have pulled up and been in and out, in about 20 minutes.
Oh no, not anymore !.
Now I need to prebook an appointment first ( who knows when they are going to get a puncture ).
The time spent there was 55 minutes.
When complete I was handed a health check report with my bill.
All tyres inspected and measured for depth etc.
Also a brake pad estimate of the current state of wear on that particular wheel 🛞.
I mean, the car had covered 1,500 miles from new and I told the person in the office and the fitter.
“But we are instructed to do it on every single car” - In was told.
Not looking for extra work then do you think 🤔.

Of course there's some dodgy garages, looking for extra work. Unfortunately that will never stop. Doesn't mean you have to get it done. Although everything these days is over complicated. 🙂👍

Agree business need to tout for work it's how they survive, even if they suggest stuff is up you go elsewhere.

I got my recent MOT at the main dealer, cheaper than local no issues no suggestion anything else was up

I am a little unsure how you are going to refuse to have any additional work done by the same dealer, who is carrying out the MOT in order to get your car passed ?.
Of course you do have the option to take the car elsewhere, but then you could have just done that anyway ?.
There have been a number of members who have submitted their cars for MOT at the dealer and told that they need a complete brake job of new pads and discs front & rear.
With an estimate for over £500 for the work.
Strangely enough, the same car was submitted for an MOT at an independent MOT station and passed.
I leave you to draw your own conclusions from this type of situation folks.
