I am amazed why every time the press review a new car they always compare it to a BYD model. Leaving my own personal preference for MG cars aside, figures also seems to show MG sells more. BIG TITLE: BYD sales in Europe grow by 165% Jan 2026 compared to Jan 2025. Very true. But they didn't sell more than SAIC motor last Jan and didn't sell more than SAIC motor this Jan.

I don't understand.

It is all down to drawing attention to the article. For long time now BYD has been promoted by the press as the Tesla killer. Now they are ahead of Tesla on volume they use them as benchmark for Chinese infiltration in the car market of Europe.

There seems to be a strange fascination with BYD, perhaps because it has some western investors, unlike SAIC, Chery, etc.

They are a very prominent brand that are advertising at major sports events and expanding into many countries (unlike MG, which is quite US [sic - UK]/Aus/Thailand focused). BYD are also making massive inroads into South America, Africa, etc.

I can see why there is a focus on relative increases because that demonstrates a change and BYD are taken to represent the Chinese dominated car future.

MG EVs aren't marketed or sold in the US.

Chinese cars have a high tariff in USA. As far as I know no chinese EV cars are sold in USA.

I don't suppose Trump would let them in, it'll probably be dominated by Tesla anyway.
