I believe they were promised for the ZS EV but it never happened, and my dealer was reluctant to apply any software updates due to the time taken, so my ZS EV had the same annoying glitches for the entire 19 months I had it.

The MGS5 is way more polished to start with, but there are some niggles as evidenced by various posts on here that could be resolved with OTA updates.

Thanks.

There is an option in the settings to check for a software update.

It does take a few minutes but mine is showing up to date.

When there is an update, I’m not sure if this will allow you to perform an OTA update, or just tell you to take it to a dealer.

Very unlikely MG4 will update OTA certainly the existing cars. Maybe the next refresh might but somewhat unlikely if it’s using current software architecture.

As @tsedge says they are mythical and after the software updates by some of the dealers when the MG4 first came out causing some of the cars to be bricked perhaps its as well.

For those that don't know the problem was when the technician had started the update they would then sit on the driver's seat or put the laptop on it. This would cause the car to go into ready mode corrupting the update and the already installed software.

For those of you who still wish for OTA updates VW has just bricked a number of ID Buzzs and they are having to be taken to their dealers to be reset.

Are the totally bricked and needing recovered or can they be driven into dealers.
2 years with my Born and no issues with OTA updates.

Relative has had a Mégane coming in up for 3 years and had various OTA updates, a couple haven't worked first time but had no impact on using the car and sorted themselves over the next couple of nights

I don't know I'd dare push an update until there's a solid history of them being sound. Maybe I'm just risk averse that way 😆

Also as a service includes software updates these days I think I'd be in the place of waiting, unless some tasty features are lined up 👍😊 maybe then I'd be tempted.

I wouldn't be so sure about them being done at a service. My local dealer seems very reluctant unless there is a very specific need. They don't want to just bring everything fully up to date, I think due to the time it ties up a laptop for, and 'if it aint broke don't fix it' mentality.

I can understand your dealer's point of view having had the experience with updates for the MG4. Some updates created other problems and in hindsight some owners wished they hadn't had it done.

From what I am hearing, MG UK seem to have pushed back somewhat on software updates to reduce costs, making it more difficult for people to get them.

I had loads, but this was all 18 months ago now and - again, anecdotally, from what I am hearing - it seems it is harder now.

I need to think harder about opening that MG Software Update Clinic....!

I have no major complaints about my S5 but there is the odd glitch that it feels like a s/w update should improve. That said I've had the odd phantom-braking incident recently which would definitely benefit from an update.

My wife recently bought a GWM ORA 03 Plus (24 plate, Coffee s/w). That is a car that has an incredible amount of tech and spec for the price, but the s/w is truly awful. I think I prefer my mostly reasonable software over her seat massagers and sunroof :)
