MG4
My trusty old trainers have finally been consigned to the tip and replaced with a new different pair which have thicker soles , better grip and spongier insoles. Much better for walking, but this is not a walking forum , in the car I have much less feel on the pedals and whilst braking is not that badly affected, the lightweight touch of the accelerator is . We all know how quickly it is just to add 10 kmph to the speed without realising it even with decent footwear but with some new , not worn in and unfamiliar trainers that 10 has gone to 20kmph.
Should I (read we ) have special shoes just for driving? like Lewis, or just keep back that old trusty pair left in the car and change every time you want to drive , I'll ignore those advocating setting the intelligent speed limiters although a bong or two might be helpful until I get used to them, from the alert settings.
Its not just the feel but also a different pivot point with the heel which needs some adjusting to, so, to the title , would this be seen as a defence ( not that its come to that ) or even partial defence with PC Plod or even further up the legal food chain should the worst happen?
And girls , how do you manage with some of the hideous things you put on your feet ?

This is probably one for General rather than specifically the MG4 board, but ..... :)

I find I can drive my MG4 in any footwear and adjust quickly ... normal trainers, court trainers (for table tennis), walking boots, garden clogs, to name but 4 different types.

I considered that , but I can only comment on what I have . Again at 6ft 3 in there is not much adjustment room for long legs and the right foot and knee joint tend to be fixed in one position so getting used to different shoe ware which alters slightly the position and feel needs a bit time.
No such problems in the Boxer , but then again that has a lazier more muted throttle response not the quicker action of the 4.

High heels? 😉🙂👍

The driver is responsible for the safe and legal management of the vehicle. What shoes you happen to wear is not a defence for not upholding such responsibilities. If you need a rest, you have a rest. If you need to change shoes, you change shoes. Just because it might be "inconvenient" to do so is no defence for putting yourself and others at risk.

My hiking shoes are a bit wider than the boots I normally wear, I've once accidentally taken the brake pedal down with me as I intended to accelerate. I also have really thick and stiff boots with chainsaw protection, but I don't drive in those. But that is really the only case when I would wear different shoes to drive in.

Personally I don't like the feel of driving barefoot, but perhaps that could be an option too?

Not had issues with this car, my old car I had to be more careful when wearing my steel toe work boots
I've driven barefoot, just socks, shoes, trainers, hiking boots and work boots
Imo out of them the worst is shoes as they seem to slip more

Agree with you entirely, perhaps you missed the tongue in cheek approach to the post?

Try ECO mode (assuming you use Normal normally). It dulls the response on the accelerator AND the brake. You'll need to adapt to the latter, it can feel like the brakes are not working the first time you try it, but it just needs a firmer shove.

I presume the intent is to "preserve momentum" which is why the setting affects the brake at all.

If you put your foot down hard in ECO, it lets you have full power and it will warn you that you are no longer driving economically.

In Sport, both are hyper-sensitive and it is hard to drive smoothly in traffic no matter your footwear, but it is fun to get away at the lights before anyone else!

If you don't get along with it, then yes, I'd suggest some comfortable driving shoes.

I don't get why this is an issue for anyone who isn't a learner or a new driver. Adapt how much you press the throttle, it's not hard, and the car in normal mode is hardly a rocket ship.

It's not that quick, even in sports mode I've been out accelerated several times
0-70mph my old manual ice car was quicker

In 2 years I've only driven in eco once but I am an aggressive driver

What is this "ECO" mode that folk are referring to. 🤷‍♂️
X Power normal mode, more than fast enough. X Power sport mode, rocketship.
Footwear doesn't make any difference.
🙂👍Think this threads a bit of a laugh, wasn't meant to be taken to seriously. 😉

An X Power is, not many cars would out accelerate an X Power to 0-60/70.
Even a "normal" MG4 is quick from stand still. Obviously coz of the nature of EVs, you mustn't be trying hard enough. 😉

Mine isn't, it's sets off very lazily in "Sport" and Custom "Sport" mode. What do I do to get it to become quick please? I want quicker, give me what you promised 🤣
