Well; since you mention it; here is a "dessert" crossing photo. Sorry couldn't resist! 😂

Back on track! We drove up to the mountains yesterday , approx 230 kms round trip . Outward bound I put on my recently washed ( don't ask ) and slightly shrunken , snug fitting slippers . Brilliant, comfortable, loads of pedal feel and a bit ventilated and cool.
Up inth hills , changed to the new trainers for our walk , again great for their intended use but need a bit of stretching in.
On the way back we stopped off at a couple of dog swimming spots , so left the trainers on for driving. Definitely not as good as the slippers , so at least I'm not imagining it .
Car , by the way , absolutely faultless, over 1000m of ascent plus all the ups and downs along the ups and downs along the way , no motorways , mainly twisty country roads , and got back with 48% battery from a 100% start with morning temperatures of 12c and return of 17c. ( 64 kwh battery ). ✔️

My trusty old trainers have finally been consigned to the tip and replaced with a new different pair which have thicker soles , better grip and spongier insoles. Much better for walking, but this is not a walking forum , in the car I have much less feel on the pedals and whilst braking is not that badly affected, the lightweight touch of the accelerator is . We all know how quickly it is just to add 10 kmph to the speed without realising it even with decent footwear but with some new , not worn in and unfamiliar trainers that 10 has gone to 20kmph.
Should I (read we ) have special shoes just for driving? like Lewis, or just keep back that old trusty pair left in the car and change every time you want to drive , I'll ignore those advocating setting the intelligent speed limiters although a bong or two might be helpful until I get used to them, from the alert settings.
Its not just the feel but also a different pivot point with the heel which needs some adjusting to, so, to the title , would this be seen as a defence ( not that its come to that ) or even partial defence with PC Plod or even further up the legal food chain should the worst happen?
And girls , how do you manage with some of the hideous things you put on your feet ?
Break the shoes in before driving in them.

You're always going to lose some foot sensitivity in brand new stiff shoes.

50 plus yrs working as a motor mechanic, you end up driving all sorts of vehicles in steel capped boots, the bare feet going to the beach, what ever was close by to go to the shops, dress shoes to go out somewhere fancy, then later as a plant mechanic driving heavy machinery, a truck mechanic and a bus mechanic as well as truck driver and bus driver ...... it's not the shoes on the pedals so much, it's the pedal spacing to a degree ...... but why can't there be a standard as to which side the wipers are on and the indicators ..... never get the hang of that, come to a corner and the wipers squeal ... "idiot" .... "idiot" ..... or it rains and you turn left then right then try twisting the ends of levers and looking all around the dash .... all the time washing the back window and flashing the headlights .... or at night, turning the lights off ...... that's always a special moment, you can barely see through the rain splattered windscreen and suddenly the lights go out as well  ..... then there is the sudden stop in the traffic, slam the foot on the clutch and apply the handbrake .... then can't figure how to release it ......

Life was so much easier when there were only 2 levers, one picked a gear that didn't really inspire you with the ratio selection, the other one at least let others know which direction you intended to go ..... yeah, I've never owned a BMW so it isn't instinct to just turn and hope the lesser vehicles get out of my way ;)

Trying to use footwear as an excuse for any driving infringement is more likely to get you in more trouble, you should be wearing what ever footwear allows to keep good control of the vehicle so if you do unfortunately get stop by Mr Plod I wouldn't mention my footwear if I were you.
