Wiper blade size and hook type

it's all perfect guys! the MG ZS rear wiper blade fits and gives that extra cleaning coverage.

here's the link I bought from
Thanks for letting the forum know !.
I find it a bit strange why MG did not use the blade from the ZS in the very first place then, rather than designing a different sized blade and to produce one tbh ????.
Unless it was cheaper of course 🥴👍.

yeah, it's rather strange indeed. I don't see how much cost savings it will be for them when it's already a widely produced item though. or just them trying to find ways for owners to buy it through them - quite similar to how they started making the frunk for some of their older models.

but yeah, thanks again to the forum and Joningy for modding and trying out the size.

The cost saving I referred to is made because MG should just used the blade on the ZS EV.
Its a blade that they already are installing on another model, so no design / drawings / R&D required etc etc.
Plus they coukd have remaining stock of the blade from the ZS EV that they have not consumed ?.
Designing and producing a new smaller blade for the S5 does not make any sense ?.
It requires a new part number / cataloging, then stocking or ordering at every dealership, when the ZS EV blade will not only fit correctly, but it does a better job of clearing the rear window, due to its slightly increased blade sweep.
Why make a completely new smaller size blade for the S5 when the ZS EV blade is better ?.
Thanks for proving that the longer blade from the ZS EV is a compatible fit onto the S5.
I will be ordering one for our S5 👍.

ah yeah, haha. I was referring to the manufacturing cost savings since they reduced everything by at least 20% - 30%. which sounds like a big change on statistics but in actual dollars, probably small.

absolutely aligned with you as to how I don't understand why they did it in the first place too - perhaps in the name of change and "improvement".

Does anyone know if Bosch make a version of the 100% compatible ZS wiper blade and if so what part code is it please?

It’s a Bosch H250 I believe.
Readerly available on line or even at your local Halfords at about £5.50 ish 👍.

It can't be any smaller than the MG4 rear wiper. 😂
The S5 has exactly the same size rear blade as the 4 Clive haha. I found one on Amazon mid September, but if you recall, it needed a small mod to the slot the hook fits into.

"Rear wiper" sounds like a nursing home term for someone the manager isn't too keen on !!

I have found over the years that oem wiper blades are of pretty poor quality and that includes the two Mercedes GLA’s (both owned from new) I’ve had recently. So I have gotten used to upgrading the wipers as a matter of course, that said I thought the wiper blades on the S5 were much better quality than those fitted to my previous ZS.

Having now received and fitted the Heyner blades I can say that initially I’m impressed by the quality feel of them and fitting was extremely easy. Remains to be seen how they perform when we actually get some rain but hopefully will cure the juddering I sometimes experienced with the old blades.
How did you get on with the Heyner blades?

I’m looking to replace my front blades and it’s a bit of a minefield. I know various blades have been recommended on here, but all the manufacturer websites seem to contradict this.

Bosch and Hayner don’t even list the MGS5 and Amazon, Halfords, etc all say that the recommended ones are incompatible.

I put a Quinton Hazell on mine, not expensive, has the right fitting!! and is a definite step up from the original.

I can confirm that despite Amazon saying they aren't compatible the Bosch A721S blades do fit with no problems.

The Bosch H252 also fit but with the slight modification as mentioned by @Joningy

I have fitted both of these to my MGS5.

I bought the Hayner HH2416TL set and they fit perfectly.

However I am confused about which way they go. Everything I read online says the spoilers should go to the bottom, and this is the way I have fitted them.

However the SAIC OEM blades only fit one way and have the spoiler towards the top. They have RHD stamped on them so the car wasn’t fitted with the wrong blades.

Does anyone know the correct way?

The Bosch AeroTwins I've fitted to mine have the spoilers at the top.

The picture on Amazon of the Hayner HH2416TL have the spoiler at the top.

I think where the confusion lies is that yes, the spoiler goes at the bottom if it's an added moulding to the side of the wiper blade arm but the curve still goes the same way as the moulded in spoiler. i.e. lower at the bottom edge and rising to the top edge.

Thanks Ian.

I’m even more confused now as there was someone on the Peugeot forums who asked Bosch technical support and they said it should go to the bottom, ie the opposite way round from what you have

I think it's unimportant which way it fits so long as it works, it's pretty basic and can be changed in seconds, without much issue!

I emailed Heyner and this is their response.

“The spoiler should be at the top. The HEYNER logo, which is only on one side, should be visible from inside the car.”

I guess I’ll be changing it around later 😀

Does this short video help answer your question in any way ?.
Take a look at this video, 'what is the idea of the spoiler on the bosch aerotwin wiper blades'
https://share.google/7myXpbJrBRzp4n37M
Excellent for front screen wipers @Lovemyev, where the spoiler is helping downward pressure (downforce) to better clean the windscreen, but maybe counter productive for the rear screen wipers, which is the one I changed on both my MG4 and S5, within a few days, both were supplied new with a ridiculously small blade.
Helpful video for those who need a little guidance. 😂😊🤔

That's how I imagine it to be fitted. 😂👍

I like the Bosch Aerotwins and have had them on numbers of our cars.
Had them on both ZS EV’s and had no problems with them.
The S5 still has the factory ones fitted at preset.
The wife’s Fiat 500 has them fitted currently, when standing at front of the car, looking towards the blades, both front blades have the “Bosch” trade mark on both bottom corners of the blade, as you would expect for adversing purposes I guess.
