which home charger?

Hi, I had the original Ohme, the app was great and easy to set up for overnight tariff.
I now have a Zappi as I wanted an EVSE that works well with solar panels and a battery.

Do you think this is just because Ohme cant be bothered to support or do you think the car/app lacks necessary hardware/functionality?

In the case of the MG5 it's lack of hardware, which I think they didn't install because they couldn't use the app in the UK because of ...stuff...

I have booked a survey visit and quote by Octopus for a home charger next week. Octopus has already allowed me to switch to their Octopus Go tariff which is designed for EV drivers even though I do not yet have an EV or a charger. You are eligible for this tariff if you already own an EV or have ordered one and you plan to use a home charger.

Switching to this tariff from an existing Octopus tariff was easy and I did not even need to show my MG4 order form as proof of my intention to buy an EV.

The rate is 7.5p (including VAT) for 4 hours every night and 39.34p per kWh at all other times. The cheap rate applies to all energy used not just EV charging. The tariff is fixed for a year with no exit fees or tie ins.

I don’t know what will happen if my new MG4 is delayed and Octopus detect that I am not using a charger but I would refer them to the long lead times for this car

Who knows what electric prices will be from 1 October. Am hoping that the 39.34p will be cheaper than the new rates. Fingers crossed.
Remember to also ask them for an Electroverse card for when you're on the road. It's usable on 30 different charging networks now, including some on the continent for your holidays.
As an Octopus customer, this will have the advantage of no pre-authorisation fees on your bank card, and any charging will be separately itemised on your home electricity bill.
You will also get a 5% discount on Ionity chargers at all times & 20% at Osprey chargers between 7-11pm daily.

I'm very interested in the MG4, and also new to electric cars, I was wondering what type of home charger I should be looking for?
my house was built in 1987 if that helps?
Hi I have a Wallbox Plus 7kw charger with tethered 5 mtr cable (type 2) works brilliantly with scheduled charging on Octopus Go Tariff, charged last night between 00.30 & 04.30 (7.5p kWh) working out at approx 2p per mile

I have just had an INDRA Smart Pro installed, seems to be very good, did it's first charge without issues, you can program you tariff rates into the app, so it charges at the cheapest rate it can, whilst making sure your battery is fully topped up (80% for my LR) and can use solar matching if you have solar.

I have a Hypervolt and I'm very pleased with it. It's a smart device with a nifty app. Can also use Solar ( not all can). It's also worth noting. These wallboxes ARE NOT CHARGERS. The chargers actually in your car. These are simply delivery devices designed to safely deliver the required wattage to your car's charger. The cars built in charger and the wall unit talk to each other throughout the charge cycle to ensure exactly the right amount of juice is being supplied. In a normal domestic setup with a 100a main fuse, you should be able to install a 7kw box. Your max delivery to your car will likely be between 6kwh to 7kwh depending on your cabling, distance from consumer unit etc. You could install an 11kwh box if you have the requisite set up for your power delivery at home. But most domestic homes wont have that.
As I said earlier as well, if solar charging is of interest to you, you must check the box you get can connect for solar. Not all can.

Any recommendations please for companies that will install the charger AND do the groundwork? I live in a flat and will need a trench across the block paving car park. So far, companies are saying I need to get someone else to do the digging. It’s not impossible to sort out but it’s pain.

The cap rates will be about 52p per unit (kWh) from October 1st. So if you can get a fixed rate deal still at 39.34p then go for it.
I have got a three pin Ohme cable from Octopus, on the go tariff, which gives me 48 miles in four hours, and from October it will be 7.5p but they are giving me 6 hours, which will then give me 62 miles a day, which is plenty for me personally

Thankfully not now. I am currently paying 28p per KWh. I reckon will be around 32p per KWh from 1st Oct. Here’s hoping anyway.

We should have a sweepstake on what it will actually be :)

Mine is 28p currently too. (Well 27.84p). I think the new rate is going to be 35p for electricity and 10p for gas (currently about 7.5p)

What API? There's not one for the iSmart supported ZS Trophy Connect nor the MG5 facelift on the Continent.
The API that MG use for the MG iSmart app to work!!
In very simple terms the API is the software in the server, SAIC in MG's case, that takes the car's information, temp, doors open or closed, windows open or closed, unlock etc. and sends it to the iSmart app.

All cars that have am app use the car's API.

If SAIC would release the api data, then you can write your own app for your car!
Some API data isn't used and could be very useful.
My I-Pace had every journey I had done ,which for business use is invaluable for costings to a client.
It could give you the miles per Kilowatt for each journey for instance.

The key point is that MG have not made the API publicly accessible, so at present there's no third party systems able to access the data. FWIW the access is normally restricted to polling the data via the server and not the car directly. There's enough security issues with the former without entering the latter world - there be dragons.

Supporting a public facing APl is an expensive chore for any software team, and in this case there's zero benefit to them to do so.

Agreed. Less so if it was properly defined in the first place which I have my doubts about.

I disagree. I will not buy another MG without one so there's a commercial imperative.

I’m leaning towards the Hypervolt 2, for Alexa integration, but MG is not on their list. Is this not a good device for the MG4?
