MG4 Reduction Gearbox Oil Leak

Thinking of taking my business somewhere else. Don't like all the nice talk to get the order then total silence after. Asked two questions and two weeks later no response yet.
Can't fault Perth MG, Yet! Sent an email to the salesman I had dealt with when I ordered re my concerns. He replied to my email a day later. Turned out he was actually on holiday and still got back to me

Which Dealer @Goldie007
I'm from Wakefield and have visited both Wakefield MG and Barnsley MG
Both run by Cars 2
Only viewed MG4 at Barnsley so cant really comment.
I think @Taq had experience with both Leeds and Barnsley for his 2 cars

MG Wakefield looked after my previous ZS EV and were ok to be fair to them.
Any issues were sorted no problem
Software updates took a couple of goes though.
Luscombes Leeds have a great reputation as does Chorley
I bought my MG4 from Charles Warner Lincoln as they had one in Stock and they have been great so far.
Good comms as mine has the oil leak, but they're keeping in good contact with me pretty much daily.
I second the Charles Warner dealership in Lincoln….fantastic service, great comms. Must have been doing something right to trade for over 100 years.

Someone on FaceAche has posted that their dealer has told them that MG have put an embargo on releasing the cars for a few days due to the oil leak issue.
@Miles Roberts CG are you able to confirm that MG have put a hold on releasing new 4s until they have clarity on the oil residue issue?
Would seem like a positive step, though may seem a frustrating step for people with cars otherwise ready.

Sounds like a sensible move to make. Hopefully the results of MG’s investigations will be available either today or Monday, and that they haven’t identified anything particularly serious.

It is Cars2 Barnsley. Not heard a thing from them after two phone calls to find some information out. There might be a orange trophy available there after this weekend. Gave them a second chance after a bad experience with another brand they sell. Hopefully they will put my mind at rest but doubtful

The posts I've read about them on the N-cars forum, with regard to people's dealings with them regarding the i20 N etc.

It was that part of the dealership I had a very strange experience with. MG had a different approach to the Hyundai side. MG gave me all the figures before I ordered a car. The Hyundai side would not give me any payments info before I ordered a car. Yes thats true, buy before they give you how much. I did say there would be no chance people would sign first. MG side did things different until after ordering, now wont call me. Cars2 might be getting an angry customer calling in tomorrow

! o_O
I get cars (usually pre reg with £thousands off, but those days are currently gone with the supply/chip issues), not on finance, so i wonder what they'd be like with a cash/part X buyer lol

Did we ever get an update from the member who was getting the dye added to there pile to check if they could find the source of the leak. Apologies there has been so much going on with this that I've forgot who it was.

Source of leak confirmed to be breather pipe on the reduction gearbox, await fix notification from MG

Did anyone bet you that £1.50 (y)
Unfortunately not, I’d have at least £19.50 by now, no doubt in my mind

😅 yup, mind you I also speculated 3 weeks plus for the fix (from MG announcement). TBH, if it’s quicker, I’ll be pleased to clean the drive with my tongue and it’s gravel….
They now have to send new breather pipes out to each dealer in the middle of a post strike, so 3 weeks would be quick!

Good to have that confirmed, don't mean this in a bad way but hopefully this is the cause of everyone's leak! Not being that technically minded would this have caused the oil to have turned grey, as some have reported, or is this another issue

OUCH, hi again crawfyp now can please can you confirm you are the owner who said your dealer was going to add a dye to the gearbox oil and then the car got bricked having a shofware update I think that’s correct yes /no please.

So if yes that’s great, was it the dye that that showed up the problem with the breather pipe reason for asking is so others members with the same problem can then inform their dealer that’s the way they found it.
Thank you for you up date as well and I hope you get your car back with the fix done ASAP

If you search for MG4 Reduction Gearbox in Google, this thread is the first hit. And that's without adding "oil" or "leak" to the search term.

Something MG maybe need to take account of - this issue is "out in the wild".
