I did actually tweet a photo of the car to the local police, god knows if they did anything about it.

Thanks. I really have an issue with DVLA/Gov and number plates The whole area has a blind eye turned to it because it‘s an entire industry and a money spinner. A bit like a Banksey painting - it’s not criminal graffiti because it’s so valuable.
You see many many plates that are illegal in one way or another.
DVLA and many other sites also sell private reg numbers that only really make sense if you move the digits to look more like what you want it to say - which makes it illegal. It’s obvious that this is what buyers will do. Especially if you’ve paid a lot of money for one.
I’m sure that there are many members on here with private plates that are technically illegal.
Having a green flash on a non EV to me is a minor thing - if that floats your boat. Though why you’d do it I don’t know.
It might be illegal but it really won’t give you anything extra other than a different looking number plate.

So legal font and letter size means no issue, stupid italics and 4D lettering is far more of an issue as ANPR struggles with them.

As for wrongly using green plates, the miscreants evidently think it will give them benefits and I bet a few park in EV bays hoping people let it slide.
It’s not a huge crime, but it’s taking the p….

If you drive around Fife you will be guaranteed to get stopped with illegal plates, depending on if you get a decent traffic cop or not you will get a VREC ticket to get it fixed or just a straight fixed penalty ticket.

If you drive around Fife you will be guaranteed to get stopped with illegal plates, depending on if you get a decent traffic cop or not you will get a VREC ticket to get it fixed or just a straight fixed penalty ticket.
It's well talked about loads of people have been getting fined

I drive ‘through’ Fife quite regularly, on the way to Edinburgh/Glasgow from Aberdeen.
Also at Knockhill a few times a year for decades, never been an issue.
“Guaranteed” is evidently way too strong.

I was just wondering after your post what value of fines people were getting in your area really. It’s been suggested also that you get a £1000 fine for having an illegal green flash on your number plate which seems harsh to me.

I’m not sure it is harsh, really.
Some people I’ve seen using green plates know full well what they’re doing and are blatantly trying to gain benefits from it.

Some local authorities allow green stripe vehicles preferential parking and even bus lane use (I imagine bus lane use is camera monitored so would flag incorrectly plated vehicles)
