MG4 doesn't save driving mode!?

Apologies if you might think I was having a dig, I certainly wasn’t just misunderstood what I read, wish I could find some way to change the set up.
Les
No apology needed Les, I didn't think so. Was just genuinely responding to a question which I interpreted as you looking to take advantage of a possible learning moment.

Ok, understood. I may be wrong about that then, but I am sure I had read something about it in the recent rules.
Safety features should default to their normal state - TC, emergency braking, ABS etc. For the Drive features then there's no reason why they have to default to a certain setting; so Eco Mode and Adaptive Regen (if last set) should easily be allowed without impacting NCAP rating (AFAIK).

Yes but there are also rules for WLTP (EU that apply to us) and some country-specific ones. These are generally not safety related but try to harmonise and defeat unfair competition tricks between manufacturers.

WLTP is the reason stop-start has to be on by default for every ICE drive. While most of it is historically aimed at ICE cars, EVs are bound by the same rulebook. It is hundreds of pages long of requirements.

What age is the Zoe? The rules may have been different when it was released.
22 plate. I don't know much about it, it's a stop gap car until my MG4 arrives. It's a fun drive though if you take it out of Eco on the motorway or its restricted to 63mph (I found out the hard way 🙂) I don't know anything about the rules though so I'm not saying you're wrong.

Well I must be wrong about that then if it is new. If the rules weren’t so ginormous I’d go through them all to be certain.

It certainly isn’t just MGs that don’t keep the modes.

Has the Zoe been out for a long time? There are exemptions for cars that were released before or while the new rules rolled in during 2017-2020.

Ok so I got my Trophy MG4 today. I change it to eco, adaptive regeneration. I turn the car off... it sets it back to Normal and strong regeneration.

I thought @Miles Roberts CG said the MG4 saves your last set mode?
I have the same problem. Am I doing something wrong? Used Custom but got back in car and it had reverted to normal.

You have to select your preferred mode on each journey, it always defaults to normal.

I believe this is due to a WLTP/NCAP change, probably something about the car not knowing who will drive it next so for safety's sake everything should be on defaults.

I also thought about it that way.
Or think about it the other way: If your son takes the car, puts it on sport and drives the sh*t out of it and then your wife takes it for a longer drive there will be customer complaints that the range is lower than what MG indicated.

I checked this at the dealership yesterday and can confirm that settings are reset each time vehicle is stopped then restarted. This is likely something that could be fixed with a software update but should have 'remembered' preferences at launch
Apparently, to keep its NCAP rating, it has to default to all safety settings on which is a real ball ache. Twice the LKA has scared to carp out of me while I avoided a little girl that rode into the road on her trike and two nearly tossed me into a passing ambulance. My personal opinion is it is outright dangerous!

I totally agree. A few times my lane keep assist has re-enabled itself WHILST IN TRANSIT. Both times whilst going over some bumpy roads.

And I thought I’d missed the setting. Waved an ambo past this morning, car tried to pull me into the ambo, away from the kerb. I wonder if we can use one of the ODB thingys and program it up to remember? Thoughts anyone.

We had a thing about Trophies switching the LKA back on when the central screen flipped between dark and light modes. I don't know if that's been fixed on an update. Never heard of it going back on for any other reason.

The LKA in my SE stays off when I switch it off. Never had it come back on by itself.

I think the NCAP logic is that anyone should be able to hop into the car in an emergency, and have the driving controls respond in a predictable consistent way. No matter who the last driver was. So that's right down to the accelerator's power mapping, and how strongly regen brakes.

Because otherwise you might press the accelerator expecting your preferred gentle eco response, and dart into traffic with your partner's preferred sport response, for example.

Profiles would solve it nicely, of course. Just some buttons on the home screen "Driver 1", "Driver 2". More expensive cars, of course, let you attach configurations to keys, setting everything from driving features to seat and mirror positions.

... but we talk a lot about things MG could do in a software update. I'm not convinced they're in the game of adding major features in software updates.

I have had my Trophy a couple of days now and also find the constant re-setting of things annoying. More annoying than it forgetting the driving mode is that it keeps switching lane keeping on! This is a horrible feature! I've never had this on any car before and it feels like someone else is tugging on the steering wheel when you're driving! Having to remember to switch it off every time I get in the car is an irritation. They really need to enable users to save their chosen settings.

Fingers crossed!

Yes I've heard that and can believe it. It does seem quite strange logic though, if I hop into someone else's car, what are the chances it's a model I'm very familiar with? And unless zombie hordes are chasing you, you'd be quite likely to drive quite carefully until you'd got used to it.
