Gov Grant

Sam,

Just to put people at ease. Have you started the grant application on all orders placed before the announcement. So they can get the full £2500 grant and therefore get their car at the order price.

Cheers

Yes, all PICG grant applications for any pre-order from Luscombe's were made the day of the order. As long as you've left a deposit and ordered a car, you have an application for the £2500 grant. The reason I say 'should' is that I'm waiting for concrete confirmation that OZEV are honouring all existing grant applications before yesterday - I'm 99.999% certain they are.

What next? Maybe road tax on EVs or cutting the grant for home installation of a charging unit immediately and not at the end of March.

Just spoke to Chorley about the grant reduction.
My car was ordered over four weeks ago and grant application has already gone in.
So I have been told my order for the Trophy model is not subject to any price increase.
New orders for the SE models are NOT affected.

Vanarama lease offer has gone up £95 pcm for a Trophy with metallic paint compared to Black Friday for new orders based on 48 month term, 10k miles, 47+1. Was 311 now 405pcm 💩

NB they've still got some Trophy Connects advertised at the previous prices, either they've not updated the prices yet and won't honour what's on their website or those are already ordered and grant applied for..

Good time to buy any already ordered or any unregistered demonstrators in showrooms?

They are affected, it's now a £1500 grant not £2500

We have a fair few grants placed in our own name - for future demonstrators/staff cars etc which could be available to anyone who doesn't mind a pre-reg at yesterday's prices

Conspiracy theory: the government knows it can't get the public charging network to keep up with surging EV sales, so is trying to temper EV sales rather than accelerate charging infrastructure. Also: Elvis is still alive and thinking about converting from his V8.

New EV list prices have been loaded from the start to take into account government grants.
These grants have effectively increased the manufacturers margins.
Customers have felt that they are getting a ‘discount’ when in fact the extra cost of the car shouldn’t have been added on in the first place. Plus as a result of the perceived OZEV ‘discount’, less actual real discounts have been available. Add in a worldwide new car shortage and it’s a very difficult market for the customer.
Take away ‘manufactured’ OZEV discounts and you have a much flatter playing field where competition and demand drive a less fictitious discounting model and more realistic actual new car deals are achievable.
The hype on new models that drives interest and demand also means that because of this few discounts are available (especially if it is actually a good car). Manufacturers are hoping that with the increase in EV’s, we never go back to a heavily competitive discounted model for mainstream cars and that their margins will continue to increase.

Just checked on salary sacrifice scheme we were thinking of getting the new Trophy with, it's gone up about £100 gross a month too :((

Think the dealers might see the brakes slammed on the demand for new EVs now unless there's some easing of the very high list prices for EVs over their ICE counterparts. I know the arguement over the price difference is a complex one but ordinary people understand the bottom line and the bottom line is - Manufacturers need to make EVs more affordable. Subsidies can't go on forever but incentives of other types could be applied, ie a VAT reduction.

I also see a post in the MG5 forum with the MG price hikes from January listed so it's truly a double whammy.

I was going to change my car in the new year and was seriously thinking of a ZSEV LR but think I'll hang on to it for the foreseeable.

It is my own believe, that they intended to chop / cut the grant at the time of the budget, however this was very close to the time when the COP26 was going ahead in Scotland.
Speaking on cutting down on emissions and then chopping the grant would have been seen as a contradiction in terms ?.
Therefore they have delayed chopping the grant until now.

I'll be looking to change to the Ora Cat, as one door closes......

So, just to reiterate the prices.
Was:
1639598836425.png

So now the SE customer price becomes £29,495 (£1,000 more)
The Trophy customer price becomes £33,495 (£2,500 more)
The Trophy connect customer price becomes £33,995 (£2,500 more)

(edit)
Assuming (big assumption) they drop the prices to 32k max to get the grant....
Trophy connect becomes £30,500 (£32k-1500) to the customer, that's £1K less than it was.
Thophy has to be kept £500 less? let's say £300 as the minimum difference, becomes £30,200 (31,700-1500) to the customer, that's £800 less than it was.
SE has to be at least 1.5k less surely, so becomes £28,700 (30,200-1500) to the customer, that's £200 more than it was.
What do you all think???
