MG ZS EV Shipping Updates

I could be wrong but I thought TBA was ‘To Be Advised’
We are told that they build batches of cars and you would hope that they have a basic understanding of what is on order before they commence the production run. For instance if they have no orders for SR SE models in blue you would assume that they would make something different, especially if they wanted to get them sold. I reckon that they could have an order book of over 5,000 cars with customers names against. If they don’t want stock laying around, just sort out all the cars on order. There are only 6 variants with 5 different colours. That means 30 different spec/colour cars leave China for UK market that are RHD and have MPH speedo’s. We therefore have a 1 in 30 chance that our car is being made.
Thinking about it RHD cars are KMH everywhere else - Malta / Ireland / Cyprus / India / Australia so production runs for UK are very specialised.
Am just hoping that with the hold on new orders being placed it is a sign that the cars will come through soon. We have seen a few members being given delivery dates for LR models now which is promising.
Don't get too hung up by the MPH KPH difference as all modern car ECUs work in KPH and the instrument cluster converts that to MPH for us!
If you were particularly inclined you could change your instrument cluster from MPH to KPH when crossing over from Northern Ireland into Eire on the border! A few button presses and hey presto!
Any car with a digital dash this is a simple task.
I hired a Nissan Micra in France and turned into a UK car including showing me miles per gallon! I did put it back to a French car when I returned it I hasten to add!

Yes, agree - they are now digital on facelift ZS. I was thinking it was old style analogue clocks as per the pre facelift demonstrator I drove in November last year.
I once picked up a hire car for the week in Dublin when I was working out there and it only had KMH on the clock - no MPH at all. Had to go to Belfast and trying to work out speed limits was a challenge. If only everywhere was 50mph then it is easy - 80 KMH. It was the first time I had driven the route so was not prepared. My car shows both MPH and KMH on the analogue speedo. Wife’s car has digital and am certain it can be changed to show KMH instead of MPH.

Just wondering when and what you ordered?

Hope you get yours soon, would be great to get it just at the start of July, new car and new plate.

Edit: Scrub that, I can see now you ordered in December. Im not far behind you, waiting since start of Jan so maybe if there is enough, I might be lucky:unsure:

That's right, I think it was around Dec 14th. But on the day he said he had a batch coming in march and there was two black and one white left.

So very possible this was a dealer stock order put in back in November and names assigned as they were "sold". As he said orders for other colours would have to be made and would be April/May time. At that time the expected turn around time was 4 months.

But the relief in his voice that they had any coming was noticeable.

Oh boy, getting a bit nervous after reading this thread and the article about orders being suspended ...

Had my order confirmed for an MG ZS Trophy LR through a leasing company on Wednesday afternoon... hoping its managed to get squeezed in and I won't hear its been cancelled next week etc.. I don't mind a 6 month wait, but its the ideal car I need for a job I start in July, will be using our ZE50 until / if it arrives

Update on my order, even though it was all entered the day before the leasing company has came back and said that after checking (my local dealer sent a request for them to check) the order did not get approved, they weren't aware of the suspension in orders and had not received any info from MG.

Might be worth anyone who ordered a few days before the article came up to double check.

In my case they already had a white, black and red Trophy LR on order from awhile ago, so I have went for the black as it was an estimated 3-4 months (could slip back, time will tell, again as long as I have the car for around New Year, its not a big deal). I could have opted for the Connect LR in blue, but there was no estimate on it.

Miles confirmed yesterday that, from July, the Trophy variant will go up in price by £500 and lose the panoramic sunroof. Connect functionality will be included as standard (meh).

So my 'old' Trophy, when it finally arrives, will be probably be worth £2K more than I paid for it. Not too surprising then that the dealer isn't putting any effort into keeping me happy. I expect if I cancelled he would dance a little jig around the showroom .

Thats dull! Which leasing company out of interest?

What about existing orders that haven't been built yet. I'm concerned I'll lose the sunroof on the Trophy I ordered....assume it will be ok though. Never know with a lease order I guess especially MG ;)

I wonder if there is any risk of the original Trophy orders getting a car without the sunroof... that would upset me :( (if it ever shows up of course)

Should only affect order's placed from 1st July which may well be when the order book opens up again. There is a separate thread on this below.

MG will have to fulfil the orders with the sunroof as this was part of the spec at the time of the order. If they decide to build without the sunroof and ship to dealers without notification of change, then I would expect to be given the option of purchase without the sunroof at a significant discount (1500€) or cancel.

For me, the sunroof was a major contributing factor when purchasing the car, I can do without the fake leather and if i didn't want the sunroof would have just bought an SE.

I was going to say that I cant see MG sending existing orders without sunroof but after everything that has happened on this thread, I'm not sure anymore. I do know that I wouldn't consider buying it without the sunroof unless I get a nice discount.

The sun roof was the main reason I went for the higher spec. Fake leather seats are good for spills but nothing a nice seat cover couldn't also do. Anyway I'll put a nice seat cover on the leather to protect it from the toddlers.

Without the sunroof, and at a higher price, other brands start to look more appealing. It must be a particularly slow or expensive part to add to the builds.

Of all the things that could have been paired back this is a bad move.

Unless they reinstate it in 2 years I'll prob look at something else when I start thinking about changing again.

Honestly I am not sure, local dealer is sorting it all out through a PCH scheme, will try and remember to ask, they successfully sourced me a ZE50 during the pandemic with shut downs of factories etc and communication was good, so my opinion has not changed of the dealer / leasing company.. seems they aren't getting much info / notifications from MG

The sun roof is the only reason the car has 2 different chassis across the trim levels, so I assume that is a major factor in deciding to remove it....

That makes total sense, but knowing how MG have completely messed up the ordering and delivery I won't believe my Trophy has one until I see it

Just called my dealer yesterday and he told me my car ordered in February has TBA on. He goes to tell me many orders from November and December are still waiting for deliveries. He said the earliest I can get my car is now looking at 2023! I'm seriously now looking at alternatives... Probably a Kia EV which they are quoting 4 months..... But probably 8k more in comparison... 🙄
I can't see my car coming any time soon as I ordered Trophy Connect and none of these are coming through....

Update from me- after sending a politely worded snottagram to MG, my LRTC (#teamwhite) ordered in Jan is apparently awaiting shipping (oh look there’s a flying pig).

Will believe it when I see it…
Inevitable when you signed a deal for a stop gap car that’s you would then get notice of arrival shortly.

True, although if it really does arrive in Sept/Oct then I would take less of a hit selling the stopgap as I wouldn’t be adding that many more miles. Any losses would anyway be balanced by the circa £400 I’m saving on fuel & the same again for scrapping my current about-to-expire chariot.

Mrs FatboyFat was making googly eyes at the Corsa when I nipped home on the test drive (to get final Financial Director approval 😆) so we may end up flogging her Mini & going full ‘lectric

Well it may end up you have your nice new car and a very happy wife with an electric car as well. What more could you ask for? 😂
