Public charging routine in a nutshell

Are you sure? It seems to me that it won't (AC) charge unless locked. Have I misinterpreted?

I've only just looked at this thread. I was thinking that someone was bewailing the absence of a 5 speed gearbox.

Public charging routine in a nutshell

Not that I use it, but my charger also has a timer on it, so, I guess, if you want a totally foolproof checklist, you need to check that the charger is going to be willing to pump out the electrons throughout your charging period. But, as I say, mine is set to 24/7; I rely on the car to suck...

    New EV - advice please

My sparky is going to run some tests, but thinks that he can use the existing wiring to the 13a plug in the garage to put in a 32a Commando, as the circuit is 32a to start with, which will make the whole thing much cheaper...

    New EV - advice please

All my white goods are quiet/distant enough to sleep through. I find that if I set the washing machine to run at midnight, I can rely on my bladder to tell me when it's time to move clothes to the drier. One small advantage of advancing years.

MGS5 safety software fault - recall level problem? (reverse after hard stop; merged)

Are you asking whether anyone has looked in the bottom RH corner of the cluster as it happens? In which case the answer is no. If you mean "what level of regen does OPD offer?", then the answer is, I believe, the same as L3. There are a couple of vids above, but here is another, done for...

MGS5 safety software fault - recall level problem? (reverse after hard stop; merged)

It deffo needn't be an emergency stop. If I had to define it, I'd say "sufficient for a shopping bag on a seat to distribute two or three items on the floor." I'm not sure that's an ISO definition, but we know what I mean, right? And it happens when you (instinctively) take your foot of the...

    Automatic headlights pants

I feel your pain. I bought an Audi A6 in 2012 when all this technology was brand new. It worked gloriously well. It is so, so much worse 13 years later. This is most true of ACC going from radar to camera. It doesn't work in poor vis, and is not good on unlit roads, it does emergency stops...

MGS5 safety software fault - recall level problem? (reverse after hard stop; merged)

To be fair, the speed at which it goes backwards is not going to dent a bumper. It could knock over a child who then bangs its head, though.

Dashcam doesn't start up after a short rest

I guess that the truthful answer is because the hassle of making up that wire (USB-C to concentric) is greater than the hassle of it not working. But my original question remains. The dashcam did not behave like this when installed in the Audi, so it seems to me more likely that the 12v supply...

MGS5 safety software fault - recall level problem? (reverse after hard stop; merged)

    Wheel nuts

My father was so excited to get an A40. He could drive it up the (not particularly steep) hill outside our house in a forward gear, unlike the reverse he had had to use in the previous car (some kind of immediate post war Fiat.)

    New EV - advice please

I power "big ticket" items. Mostly the 3kW oil radiator I use to heat the conservatory I use as an office, which has no CH radiator, but also the oven, the washing machine, tumble drier and dishwasher (if I am going to use them by day, I mostly time them to run at night.) Obviously, I only use...

    New EV - advice please

I have long advocated (and put my own money where my mouth was) also keeping ICE cars topped up, on the grounds that there are regular huge surges in demand (whether because of supply problems, tanker driver strikes, whatever) resulting in ridiculous queues at the petrol stations, which...

    New EV - advice please

How is that enforced? As I have reported widely already, I use the V2L function to store nighttime leccy and use it during the day, such that very little of my usage is on the daytime rate; so even if they magically turned off my ring main at night and they really policed my tumble drier usage...

    New EV - advice please

I don't understand the logic at all, why not just plug it in once a week instead of once a fortnight? The unit rate is going to be the same whatever the rate of charge. The £1000+ you spend on a charger would buy 14,000+ kWh of leccy. But you've clearly thought it through, so you do you!
  22. TimothyN

Have you thought of saving the money on the 7kW charger and charging more often on a 3kW charger costing £90? (Warning: This discussion arises on many threads!)

    New S5 Owner checking in

In terms of the cost benefit and practicalities of the granny charger (as opposed to safety issues), it comes down to a question of the use case. As several people (including myself) have said, granny charging will only give you 30% in the low cost period of the night (which, in my case, is...

My usual diatribe in favour of granny… If you don't use your car an enormous amount (I really only use mine to go from Biggin Hill to Bromley and Morden), you are unlikely to use more than 30% of the capacity, and granny will give you 30% per night. I have my granny charger set to 13A, and the...

Oh, all right then. Sigh If you’re comparing like-for-like (same size, load/speed rating), the CrossClimate 3’s main gains over the CrossClimate 2 are: Better wet grip / shorter wet braking: Michelin’s own claim is ~4% shorter wet braking vs CrossClimate 2, helped by the tread’s V-shaped...

    MGS5 Information & Reviews

I was quite surprised this morning to find that OPD wasn't working. I have a long drive today, so, unusually, I set it to recharge to 100%. However, the length of my cheap leccy overnight meant that it only got up to 97%. I can understand why OPD doesn't work at 100%. I'm quite surprised that...

Two weeks in, feeling a bit Meh about the MGS5 EV if I am honest.

Two different things. Using Apple CarPlay there is no map, instructions or speed limit on the cluster, nor intended to be (which is a shame.) What @mcderd is saying is that one of the optional panels in the cluster is supposed to show (limited) navigation instructions from the inbuilt satnav...
